When planning a trip to Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, you can focus on the landscape, architectural history or places associated with artists. The ways to visit also differ: some features of the area are permanent, while exhibitions, mini golf and guided tours are tied to specific dates. When planning your days, therefore, consider both your interests and the relevant dates.

The Yvette Valley and local history

The “Val et coteau de Saint-Rémy” Regional Nature Reserve covers about 80 hectares in the Yvette Valley, in the southeastern part of the commune. The protected landscape is therefore an important point of reference for anyone interested in the valley. The Église Saint-Rémi offers a distinct historical perspective: it dates from the 11th century and is located near the Yvette. The church was closed to the public until necessary repair work began. Check current opening conditions before visiting.

Château de Coubertin and sculpture

The current building of Château de Coubertin dates from the late 17th century. A triple avenue of centuries-old lime trees leads to its entrance. The château is home to the Fondation de Coubertin, which preserves collections of sculptures and drawings by sculptors, including a significant collection of works by Joseph Bernard. In this way, the architecture and collection are distinct aspects of the heritage, rooted in the same place.

Every autumn, the Fondation holds a sculpture exhibition in its gallery and the Jardin des Bronzes. If you would like to include this in your plans, check the exhibition dates in advance, as they may vary from year to year. This seasonal schedule differs from the permanent features of the château and its avenue of lime trees.

Two artists’ homes, two different perspectives

The Maison-Musée Raymond Devos opened in 2016 in the house where the artist lived until his death on June 15, 2006. Visitors can tour almost the entire house. Exhibits include personal belongings, instruments and archives. Lively scenography and interactive installations present Devos’s work across humor, poetry, music and wordplay. The visit thus offers a look inside his former home alongside insight into the artist’s work.

The Fondation Marta Pan & André Wogenscky also organizes visits to a place associated with artists: in partnership with the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, it offers guided tours of the Maison-Atelier and sculpture park from April to October. Tours take place once a month on a Saturday, with two tours offered on each date. The grounds include a park with around twenty sculptures by Marta Pan. As visiting times may change, contact the Fondation directly before making plans.

Industrial history, farm sales and seasonal activities

The Moulin des Clayes on the Yvette was a tannery mill in the 19th century. Around 1892, it was converted into a wool-carding factory. This sequence brings the changing use of the site to life: wool processing followed tanning. Anyone interested in the area’s working history can get a concrete sense of its former industrial use.

The Ferme de Saint-Rémy, also known as Ferme de Coubertin, sells cheese, dairy products, eggs and poultry directly from the farm. As sales arrangements may change, it is advisable to confirm current options before visiting. Its produce offers a distinct local point of interest alongside architecture, art and landscape.

For seasonal leisure planning, also note the mini golf course at Lac Beauséjour: it is open from May to September on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Check the opening details before travelling. If you would like to explore regional sights by Baladobus, you can board at Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse station; the bus serves sights in the Vallée de Chevreuse. Check the timetable and operating days before planning your trip.

Near the station, visitors can also discover Ferme de Coubertin and the Forêt Départementale de Méridon. If you plan to visit these destinations, refer to the latest route leaflet. This makes it possible to include seasonal activities, guided tours and regional discoveries as different elements of your trip, without assuming they all have the same visiting times.
