Santo-Pietro-Di-Tenda brings together prehistoric sites and sacred architectural history with the landscape of the Agriate and a selection of regional wines. The highlights are distinct: Monte Revincu represents megalithic remains, the monastery and churches tell the story of local architecture and history, while the Agriate refers to a vast natural area. This distinction can help you plan your trip according to whether you want to focus on culture, landscapes or culinary experiences.

Prehistory and Architectural History

Monte Revincu is a prehistoric megalithic complex with megalithic tombs and menhir statues. The archaeological remains at the site were fully protected as a historic monument by decree of 25 October 2018.

The Ancien couvent Saint-Joseph was rebuilt in 1630 beside a Pisan church dating from the 12th century. The former monastery complex was arranged around a Romanesque church and included a cloister. In 1758, the monastery hosted a Consulta led by General Paoli. This place therefore brings architectural history together with a specific historical event.

Sacred Architecture in Casta

In Casta, Santo-Pietro-Di-Tenda, the Église Saint-Jean and the Chapelle des Pénitents de la Sainte-Croix form a protected historic ensemble. The Église Saint-Jean-Évangéliste and the Oratory of Sainte-Croix form a Baroque ensemble, with the bell tower connecting the two buildings. It also includes a large forecourt of compacted earth, accessed through an ornate portal. The interior of the ensemble is decorated with remarkable trompe-l’œil paintings, whose perspective technique creates the impression of spatial depth.

The Agriate and Monte Astu

The protected Agriate area also includes Santo-Pietro-Di-Tenda and is open to the public. Its landscape includes Mediterranean maquis, dunes, wetlands and Neolithic archaeological sites. The coastal and beach details refer to the Agriate as a whole: it has 37 kilometres of undeveloped natural coastline and includes the beaches of Saleccia, Lotu, Ghignu and Ostriconi.

Monte Astu offers a different kind of natural attraction: it can be reached from Santu Petru di Tenda via its eastern slope. This distinguishes the landscape highlights of the Agriate from the specific access route named for the mountain.

Wine and Regional Activities

Domaine Casta offers an insight into winery operations and tastings of AOP-Patrimoniu wines. At L’Osteria, Domaine Casta also produces olive oil and is organically certified. The visit combines a look at the winery’s work with a tasting of its wines.

Other options include combined 4x4 and hiking tours, electric quads, SSVs and mountain bikes for hire, as well as 4x4 shuttles to the beaches of Saleccia and Loto.
