Isolaccio-Di-Fiumorbo: GR20, Chapels and Architectural History
Accommodation in Isolaccio-Di-Fiumorbo
For a stay in Isolaccio-Di-Fiumorbo, you can explore several themes: Refuge de Prati on the GR20, chapels and memorials, and distinctive architectural styles. These themes raise different questions about the hike, the architecture and the village’s history—and can help you plan your trip around your own interests.
Refuge de Prati and the GR20
Refuge de Prati is located on the GR20 long-distance trail. To reach the refuge, it is recommended that you leave your vehicle in the church square in Isulacciu Di Fium’Orbu. Before setting out, check trail conditions and take the parking location into account when planning your route.
From Refuge de Prati, you can see the sea, the ponds and the islands, as well as part of eastern Corsica. Two distinct features can help you orient yourself: the refuge’s location on the long-distance trail and the panorama that opens up from there. If you choose the GR20 as the focus of your trip, you can plan for the trail and the viewpoint separately.
Chapels and remembrance
The memorial at the entrance to Isolaccio-di-Fiumorbo commemorates the martyrdom of the people of Isolacciu at the hands of the French army commanded by General Morand. It provides a clear historical focus. The Chapel of Sainte-Lucie offers a different perspective: it is located in a cemetery and has two arcas inside, one for women and one for men. These specifically distinguished arcas are a notable feature of the chapel.
The Chapel of San-Ghjacumu is located in the hamlet of Ajola in Isolaccio-Di-Fiumorbo. Its single-nave hall has a basket-handle barrel vault. The term “single-nave” describes the basic layout of the hall; the vault shape adds another architectural feature. In comparison, Sainte-Lucie draws attention to an interior detail with its two arcas designated by gender. When visiting, you can therefore focus either more on the architectural form or on the distinctive furnishings.
Maison Carrée and the Pietrapola thermal baths
Maison Carrée is located in the centre of the hamlet of Pietrapola les Bains. Under Napoleon III, it served as an imperial gendarmerie; architecturally, it consists of a round inner courtyard and stone buildings. Its former function and architectural form offer two distinct points of interest: you can consider its historical use alongside the clearly described layout without treating them as the same thing.
The Thermes de Pietrapola are described as Corsica’s only licensed thermal facility. The timing is important when planning a visit: as of August 2026, the Pietrapola thermal facility was undergoing renovation, and no reopening date had yet been announced. Before visiting, check whether a date has since been announced.
Find hotels to suit your trip
First consider what you want to focus on during your trip: a hike on the GR20, chapels and local history, or the thermal baths. You can then compare the hotel information with your own plans and choose accommodation based on what actually matters for your stay.
