Feliceto: History, Reginu and Routes
Accommodation in Feliceto
If you’re looking for a hotel in Feliceto, you can choose where to stay based on local themes: the landscape along the Reginu, built heritage and walking routes. These highlights offer practical starting points for planning your trip.
Between the Montegrosso Massif and the Reginu
Feliceto is located in the Montegrosso Massif; the Reginu runs through the village and irrigates the plain of the same name. The massif, river, village and plain are therefore all part of the area’s landscape. The Reginu is also a landmark on the Boucle de Sant’Andria: the route crosses the river via a Genoese bridge. Feliceto’s setting is thus linked to a structure that forms part of a described route.
Church and built heritage
Dedicated to Saint Nicholas, Saint-Nicolas Church was built in several phases from the late 17th to the 19th century. Inside are 14 Stations of the Cross, painted by Saverio Farinole between 1720 and 1760. The paintings can be dated more precisely than the church itself, whose construction spanned several centuries.
A different kind of architectural heritage is A casetta di Falcunaghja: this underground house dates from the 17th century, stands at an elevation of 800 metres and overlooks Feliceto. The church and the Casetta thus represent different building types and historical periods in the area.
Agriculture and crafts
At the end of the 19th century, Feliceto’s 600 residents made their living mainly from grain, olive oil, wine, chestnuts, crafts and livestock farming. The scale of agriculture at the time is also quantified: 200 hectares of olive groves, whose harvest supported the operation of six mills; 47 hectares of vineyards; and 18 hectares of chestnut groves. There were also 2,600 farm animals, including 2,000 sheep. These figures describe Feliceto’s economic life at the end of the 19th century.
Local crafts include the “Dans les yeux de Lucie” workshop. It makes imaginative jewellery with 24-karat gold plating and gemstones, in small batches or as one-off pieces; custom-made items are also available. The production options range from small batches to individual, bespoke pieces.
Festivities and routes
The San Roccu festival features a procession and Mass on 16 August, with a big dance evening planned for 16 and 17 August. Check the dates before planning your trip around the festivities.
The Boucle de Sant’Andria starts in Feliceto and follows paths to the old gardens and their mills, as well as across a Genoese bridge over the Reginu. A hike to A casetta di Falcunaghja is classified as moderate and involves 600 metres of ascent. The Boucle takes you to gardens, mills and the bridge; for the hike to the Casetta, the difficulty rating and elevation gain provide more specific guidance for planning. Check your equipment and local conditions before setting out on this hike.
