Albertacce combines named mountain landscapes and natural sites with hiking and cultural attractions. The Albertacce archaeological trail is a circular route of about two hours; the hike to Bergerie et cascade de Radule also takes about two hours. There is also an archaeological museum, a Genoese bridge and various outdoor activities. The focus varies from observing nature and archaeological remains to horseback riding and climbing routes.

Forest, Golo and Mountains

The Valduniellu Biological Reserve is in Albertacce and covers 308.3 hectares. In the Valduniellu forest, the Golo forms the Cascade de Radule. The forest, river and waterfall are therefore distinctive natural features of the area.

At higher elevations in Albertacce, you may spot mouflons from the Cinto colony. Paglia Orba is one of the mountains around Albertacce and stands 2,525 metres high. Capu Tafunatu and Punta Artica are also among the mountains surrounding Albertacce. Calasima is a hamlet of Albertacce and is described as the highest-altitude village in Corsica.

Compare Hikes by Theme

The Albertacce archaeological trail starts at the edge of the village in the direction of Col de Vergio (Verghju). This circular route takes about two hours and passes rock shelters and menhirs. The hike to Bergerie et cascade de Radule also starts and ends in Albertacce and takes about two hours. The time required is similar, but the themes differ: the archaeological trail focuses on rock shelters and menhirs, while the other hike takes its name from the bergerie and Cascade de Radule. Seasonal conditions may affect access to this hike; take them into account when planning.

The GR20 can be hiked in Albertacce as a long-distance trail. So alongside circular hikes with defined durations, you can also choose a long-distance trail as a different type of excursion.

Culture in the Village and by the River

The Musée archéologique Lucien Acquaviva d’Albertacce welcomes visitors and groups. An archaeological find from Niolu is presented there following its examination and is open to the public. If you are planning a museum visit, check the current visiting conditions beforehand.

Pont’Altu is a Genoese bridge over the Golo, below the RD 84 road bridge. There is also a viewpoint here overlooking the Golo and the surrounding mountains of Niolu. Pont’Altu is also a bathing spot in the river. Swimming is subject to the season and weather; take these conditions into account before swimming.

Outdoor Activities

Ranch U Niolu a cavallu offers horseback rides with a river swim, including a two-hour option. This duration is comparable to the roughly two-hour circular hikes, but the focus is on riding and swimming in the river. La Promenâne offers walks or hikes with a donkey that start at a chestnut grove.

The Association Sportive du Niolu offers an adventure course for adults and children in two hectares of Laricio pine forest. On the road to Calasima, a climbing site with about 20 routes graded from 4 sup to 8a is located on the mountainside rock face. The availability of activities and climbing routes can change; check before making plans.
