Olivet can be explored through several themes: mills and architectural history, a historic trail, green paths and cultural events. If you are planning a stay, you can first consider whether you would like your days to focus more on history, outdoor activities or an evening of culture. The places and activities offer different ways to decide.

Mills and architectural history

The Moulin des Béchets probably dates from the 15th century and was used to grind grain until 1915. The Moulin de la Mothe highlights a different aspect: its wheel can still turn and generate electricity today. The two mills therefore represent different time frames—a former use with a specific end date, and a wheel’s present-day ability to turn and generate energy. To explore Olivet’s milling history, it is worth keeping these points distinct: the Moulin des Béchets’ former grain processing is historically situated, while the Moulin de la Mothe is notable for a technical capability that remains in place.

The Church of Saint Martin also offers several points of reference in time. It was built between the 13th and 16th centuries. Three bays featuring 13th-century architecture are listed in the register of Monuments Historiques. The construction period and the classification of these bays describe different aspects of the church: a building history spanning several centuries, and a medieval section that is specifically highlighted.

The Chapelle de Couasnon is a former chapel dating from the 18th century and hosts sculpture exhibitions. Individual, self-guided visits are possible at any time or on request. As visiting arrangements may change, it is best to check the current options before your visit.

Heritage trail and local heritage

The Parcours patrimoine is a historic trail through Olivet with 22 stops and explanatory panels. It explores the town’s heritage of trees and viticulture, as well as the heritage along the banks of the Loiret. The panels provide a thematic framework for the trail: the history is explored not only through individual buildings, but also through the cultivation of trees and vines and life along the riverbanks. This trail therefore offers a different way to explore Olivet’s past than focusing on a single historic building.

Green paths and riverside scenery

Hop en liberté provides a map of green paths for walkers, as well as two running routes that can be used independently. The map is intended for walkers; the two running routes can be used on your own. Municipal access restrictions may apply to some paths. Check for any relevant notices before planning your route.

Short walks and longer hikes can begin along the Bords du Loiret. There is also a discovery and interpretation trail. This offers different ways to get out and about: shorter walks, longer hikes and a route specifically dedicated to discovery and interpretation. The Parc du Poutyl offers a different focus. It is a 3.5-hectare French-style park with a great diversity of plants. From its terrace, you can enjoy a view of the Loiret River.

Plan for cultural events

CINÉetc. screenings at the Alliage feature a film at 8:30 p.m. on one Friday each month, followed by a discussion with experts. Film topics and dates vary. If you would like to include a screening in your travel plans, check the current programme and the specific date. This makes it possible to distinguish this cultural offering, which takes place at a scheduled time, from the historic sites and the walks and running routes that can be planned freely.
