If you are planning a trip to Dordives and looking for a hotel, you can focus on culture, nature or outdoor activities. For cultural history, there are the Château de Mez-le-Maréchal and the Église Saint-Étienne de Dordives, each with its own architectural history. Outdoors, you can explore walking trails, a birdwatching station, cycling along the Loing Canal and fishing. Before booking, you can decide whether architecture, walks or a bike ride will be the main focus of your trip.

Walking, Nature and Cycling

The first kilometre of the trail at the Prairie des étangs is accessible to people with reduced mobility and has been awarded the Tourisme & Handicap label. Check the latest accessibility information before your visit. The Prairie is open for fishing year-round; local fishing regulations and permit information may change, so check the latest information in advance. A themed tour explores the area’s historical, ecological and natural features. The Prairie is also a quiet, protected place for walks, relaxation and outdoor activities.

At the Sablière de Cercanceaux, a 5.5-kilometre trail runs around the site. It was once a site for extracting raw materials; after extraction ended, nature reclaimed the area. A birdwatching station provides opportunities to observe the many birds that winter there. For planning purposes, you can distinguish between two features: the 5.5-kilometre circular route and the seasonal birdwatching. Trail conditions may change; check the latest information before your walk.

The walking trails differ in two clear ways: at the Prairie, the first kilometre is accessible to people with reduced mobility; at the Sablière, a 5.5-kilometre trail runs around the site.

The Scandibérique passes through Dordives and offers a ride along the Loing Canal. Route conditions and signage may change; check the latest information before your ride.

Architecture and Building History

The Château de Mez-le-Maréchal was built by confidants of King Philip II Augustus, modelled on the Louvre. Its square outer wall dates from the 13th century and has four round towers and a gate between two towers. Unlike the Louvre, the château has preserved almost all of its medieval architecture. Here, a historic architectural model meets a largely preserved medieval structure.

The Église Saint-Étienne de Dordives tells a different story. Its first building dates from the 11th century. After the earlier structure was destroyed during the Hundred Years’ War, the church was rebuilt in the 15th century. Above the altar are contemporary stained-glass windows dating from 1970. While the château’s almost complete preservation of medieval architecture shapes the visitor’s impression, the church’s history also includes destruction and rebuilding; its windows reflect a much later period.
