Betz-Le-Château offers several concrete points of reference for planning your trip: the ruins of Château de Betz, the Charité de saint Martin stained-glass window in Saint-Etienne Church, the marked Chemin de l’évêque de Tours, the Plan d’Eau Communal and the products offered by Maison Galland. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether culture, hiking, leisure by the water or regional products will be the focus of your stay.

History and Architecture

The ruins of Château de Betz have been listed as a historic monument since 21 April 1937. Château de Betz is an authentic medieval fortress with characteristic castle features. For the 2026 season, a tour of the grounds and impressive underground areas, particularly suitable for families, was planned. From 6 July to 31 August 2026, the site was scheduled to be open daily from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This period has now passed. If you are planning a visit at a later date, check the dates for the relevant season.

A Stained-Glass Window with a Narrative Motif

The Charité de saint Martin stained-glass window was created in 1895 by Julien Fournier, a stained-glass artist from Touraine. It is located on the right side of the apse chapel in Saint-Etienne Church in Betz-Le-Château. It depicts the Roman horseman Saint Martin, surrounded by a halo, cutting his cloak in two to give half to a poor man. The halo identifies him as a saint; the division of the cloak makes the depicted act clear. The window thus connects a precisely identified location in the church with a narrative motif and offers a concrete point of interest for travelers interested in church art.

The Chemin de l’évêque de Tours

The Chemin de l’évêque de Tours passes through Betz-Le-Château and forms part of a marked 236-kilometer route from Poitiers to Tours. This length refers to the entire route between the two cities, not the section within the village. When planning your hike, it is therefore important to distinguish the full route from the section you want to walk. If hiking is the main reason for your trip, plan your stage separately from the overall distance. This keeps the scale of the route clear: the 236 kilometers describe the connection between Poitiers and Tours, not a single day’s hike.

Leisure at the Plan d’Eau Communal

The Plan d’Eau Communal is intended for individual or family leisure activities. It can be accessed by foot or by road. This leisure area adds another possible focus for your stay alongside culture and hiking. Before visiting, check current access and seasonal conditions.

Maison Galland in Betz-Le-Château offers farm-produced charcuterie, such as Rillons de Touraine and Rillettes de Tours IGP, as well as Roi Rose pork, preserves, fruit juices and wines. Its range adds a culinary dimension to the cultural and hiking options. The selection may change, so check in advance whether a particular product is available.
