Matour combines a green landscape with botanical trails, a variety of walks and sites of local heritage. When planning your trip, you can choose trails based on their length and stated difficulty, and focus on nature, exercise or history. If you are looking for a hotel in Matour, these different options can help you weigh up your interests for your stay.

Landscape and botanical trails

Small, wooded hills, bocage landscapes criss-crossed by hedgerows and small ponds shape the scenery around Matour. Other bodies of water are also part of this green setting. The botanical trail passes through hedgerow pastures and mixed woodland. Three information boards and seven panels highlight botanical and wildlife features of the region. The trail thus links different landscape features with information about plants and animals.

The Sentier de l'abeille also passes through hedgerow pastures and mixed woodland. It includes an optional 30-minute out-and-back extension to the summit of Grand'Roche at an altitude of 672 metres. Those who want to combine botanical themes with the landscape will find this a different trail option from the Sentier botanique, with its information boards and panels.

Étang du Paluet is just a few steps from the town centre and is a pleasant place to walk or cycle. It offers a different way to spend time outdoors from the trails through hedgerow pastures and mixed woodland. You can choose between these different places and routes based on the focus you want for your trip.

Circular trails with different profiles

The Parcours du sonneur is three kilometres long and classified as an easy route. It also has two- and one-kilometre variations, as well as information panels. By contrast, the marked Circuit du bocage et de la montagne de Crozan is 13 kilometres long and of moderate difficulty. It starts at the swimming pool car park in Matour. The routes differ clearly in length and stated difficulty, providing a practical guide for planning.

While the Parcours du sonneur offers shorter variations, the Circuit du bocage et de la montagne de Crozan is a longer circular route. The Sentier de l'abeille adds an optional extension to Grand'Roche to this selection. These are different types of routes: a trail with shorter variations, a marked 13-kilometre circular route and a trail with an additional out-and-back section. Which one you include in your trip depends on your preferred route and distance.

Matour's heritage and history

The Maison des Patrimoines is housed in a historic building that has been in use since the 15th century. Its interactive museum tour explores the history of Matour and southern Burgundy. To learn more about Matour's folk heritage, you can also take the Sentier patrimoine, which offers a chance to discover some of this heritage. The building, museum tour and trail each highlight different aspects of the town's history and cultural heritage.

The Maison des Patrimoines also offers a two-hour adventure trail. An investigator's kit is provided and can be borrowed at reception; advance booking is required. If you plan to include this activity, take the reservation into account when planning your trip. The Cressonnière de Matour showcases another aspect of local heritage: it consists of two stone basins fed by a spring, which then drain into the Baize stream.

Local produce

The local producers' market takes place in the park of the Maison des Patrimoines. It offers vegetables, cheese, beer, wine, honey and plant-based products. The selection brings together regional food and drink in one place. Exact dates and the music programme vary by season. If you want to visit the market, check the dates for the time of your trip.
