Dracy-Lès-Couches lies in a valley shaped by vineyards and livestock farming. Historic buildings, wineries and the Les Balcons de Dracy hiking route offer different ways to spend your time here. To decide whether the village suits your travel plans, it is worth exploring the different historical periods represented by the Château de Dracy and the Church of Saint-Maurice, as well as the local wine offerings and hiking trail.

Château de Dracy: Layers of History

The Château de Dracy was rebuilt in 1547 on the site of a fortress dating from 1298. The entire château complex and its park, including the outbuildings and dovecote, have been listed as historic monuments since October 24, 2016. The château also includes an 80-meter-long winemaking building dating from the 18th century, built using the medieval castle wall.

This brings together several different periods: the fortress of 1298, the château’s reconstruction in 1547, the 18th-century winemaking building and its listing in 2016. For history enthusiasts, this sequence is a useful guide to understanding that the different parts were not all built at the same time.

The Church of Saint-Maurice

The Church of Saint-Maurice is built directly into the rock and was rebuilt around 1715. It features 19th-century paintings, including a large blue vaulted ceiling that was restored in 2000. This makes it possible to distinguish the building’s construction, its reconstruction and its later decoration: the paintings do not date from the reconstruction, and the ceiling was restored much later.

Compared with the château, Saint-Maurice has a different building history. At the château, the focus is on the earlier fortress and its reconstruction; the church adds its setting in the rock and its later paintings. These different features give you concrete points of reference if you are particularly interested in the history of the buildings during your stay.

Wineries and Wine Tastings

Domaine Demontmerot has been based in Dracy-Lès-Couches for nine generations and grows Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It offers free wine tastings in its cellar year-round, but only by prior appointment. Arrange your visit before you arrive.

Domaine Château Miraudet farms 16 hectares of vineyards and produces Mercurey rouge, Côtes du Couchois, Bourgogne Chardonnay, Bourgogne Aligoté, Coteau Bourguignon, rosé and Crémant. After prior contact, it invites visitors to a wine tasting with Georges Budin in a cellar. Domaine La Glycine Blanche also farms 16 hectares of vineyards and produces its wines using traditional methods.

Miraudet and La Glycine Blanche each have the same stated vineyard area; the other details highlight different features. Miraudet pairs a specific selection of wines with a tasting arranged in advance, while La Glycine Blanche emphasizes traditional methods. Demontmerot, in turn, combines its long-standing presence in the village with the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties. If wine is a focus of your trip, you can use these described characteristics to help guide your choice.

Hiking and Planning Your Stay

The Les Balcons de Dracy hiking trail starts and ends in Dracy-Lès-Couches. Both the starting point and the finish are therefore in the village. For planning your day, these are different considerations from the wine tastings, which require an advance appointment or prior contact: you can treat the hiking route and a pre-arranged winery visit as separate highlights of your stay.

This helps you choose a destination based on its specific local attractions.
