Discover La Clayette
Accommodation in La Clayette
The Château stands by the lake, the Chapelle Sainte-Avoye reflects the town’s architectural history and cultural programme, and outdoor activities range from a waymarked trail to a treasure hunt. There is also a volunteer-run community cinema and a long equestrian tradition. Consider what you would like to focus on during your stay when looking for a hotel in La Clayette.
Château and Chapelle Sainte-Avoye
The Château de La Clayette was built on the lake shore in 1380 and is surrounded by water. It has been owned by the de Noblet family since 1722. Its construction date and ownership history add a historical perspective to its lakeside setting.
The Chapelle Sainte-Avoye was built in 1451 by Louis de Chantemerle, Lord of La Clayette. It is a rare example of Flamboyant Gothic architecture in the Brionnais. The historical contexts differ: for the Château, the lakeshore and family ownership are significant; for the Chapelle, its patron and distinctive architecture.
No longer used for religious services, the Chapelle Sainte-Avoye serves as a cultural venue for exhibitions, performances and concerts. The programme may change; check current event dates before visiting.
Trail, lakeshore and mini golf
Flore et Faune en Bord de Lac (CL2) is a waymarked walking trail in La Clayette, part of the Balades Vertes programme. The loop follows the lakeshore to the Aire de loisirs & Mini-Golf and returns to the Château de La Clayette via the promenade. Its route thus connects the lakeshore, leisure area and Château in a single loop.
The Aire de loisirs & Mini-Golf is located on the shore of Lake La Clayette and has an 18-hole mini-golf course. It operates seasonally, and details may change. Check in advance whether mini golf is available during your travel dates.
Treasure hunt in the town centre
Les aventures de Clettis is a treasure hunt and discovery tour in La Clayette. Hidden clues lead along a 4 km route through the town centre, and the experience lasts two hours. These details provide a specific timeframe for planning your day.
The two activities offer different formats: CL2 is a waymarked loop by the lake, while Clettis is a discovery tour with clues through the town centre. Clettis also has a stated route length of 4 km and duration of two hours.
Cinema and equestrian sports
Cinéma L’Odyssée is a community cinema run by a team of volunteers. La Clayette also has a long tradition of breeding horses for draught and racing, and today hosts prestigious equestrian events. Alongside architectural history and lakeside activities, cinema, horse breeding and equestrian sports are also part of the town’s character. If an equestrian event will shape your stay, check the specific event dates in advance.
