Aisy-sous-Thil offers two distinct points of interest for a stay: the Château, with its history and architecture, and trails associated with Étang de la Folie and a stretch of river. These themes can help you plan your trip because they answer different questions. At the Château, the focus is on construction phases and architectural features; the trails are about distance, route, and the possibility of a break. If you also consider planned activities when choosing a hotel, you can weigh these interests in advance.

Château d’Aisy-sous-Thil: construction phases and architecture

The Château d’Aisy-sous-Thil dates from the late 15th or early 16th century and was rebuilt in the 17th or 18th century. The dates distinguish an early construction phase from a later rebuilding; both refer to periods, not to a single year. The building has two round towers with surviving loopholes. Loopholes are narrow openings in masonry. A double exterior staircase leads to a raised portal. Other features include glazed roof tiles and a French garden. The façade has Neo-Gothic window openings. These individual features relate to different parts of the Château: towers, portal, roof, garden, and façade. The French garden extends the view beyond the building itself; the Neo-Gothic window openings are a feature of the façade, while the glazed tiles are a detail of the roof. This gives architecture enthusiasts two perspectives to consider: the chronology of the construction phases and the specific design of individual architectural elements.

Trails, a stretch of river, and a picnic break

The “Les soupes de la sorcière” discovery trail starts at Étang de la Folie in Aisy-sous-Thil and is approximately 5 km long. Part of it follows the marked “La Ferme du Hameau” trail. This trail leads to Étang de la Folie, where you can take a picnic break at tables and benches before continuing toward Aisy-sous-Thil. “La Ferme du Hameau” runs alongside a river for 2.5 km. When comparing the trail distances, it is important to note that they do not measure the same thing: approximately 5 km is the length of the discovery trail, while 2.5 km is the riverside stretch of the marked trail. The 2.5 km should therefore not be understood as the total length of “La Ferme du Hameau.” Since the trails share part of the same marked route, they are not entirely independent of one another. This distinction helps you treat the approximate trail length, the riverside stretch, and the break at the pond as separate planning considerations.

Pond and washhouses

Aisy-sous-Thil has a landscaped pond covering 3,500 m², with picnic tables and two renovated washhouses. As facilities may change, check the condition of the site before your trip.
