The Pistynka flows through Sheshory and forms a cascade of waterfalls there at a massive rock formation. Hiking trails start at various landmarks in the village; southwest of the center, on the left bank of the river, stands the Church of Saint Paraskeva. The river landscape, routes, and church provide specific local points of interest for planning a trip to Sheshory.

Waterfalls on the Pistynka

The largest and loudest waterfalls in the cascade are Velykyi Huk (4–5 meters high) and Malyi Huk, at 2 meters. The “Sribliasti” (“Silver”) or “Sheshorski” waterfalls are on the Pistynka River. The Pistynka is a right-bank tributary of the Prut. The names, heights, and river references clearly locate the waterfall area: it is a cascade on the Pistynka in Sheshory, not a single, isolated waterfall.

Hiking Trails and Tours

The “Do Sheshorskykh hukiv” hiking trail leads from the church to the waterfalls on the Pistynka. It is also the namesake branch of the “Chotyry dorohy” ecological hiking trail. Another route, the “Na polonynu Rosokhata” ecological and nature trail, starts on Sheshory’s central street and leads to the Rosokhata mountain meadow. The trails therefore have distinct starting points: one connects the church and waterfalls, while the other starts on the central street.

A four-hour route covering 3.5 kilometers starts in Sheshory and runs through Hutsulshchyna National Park. It passes over Mount Velykyi Pohar at 729 meters to Mount Rokyta at 1,110 meters; the elevation gain is 370 meters. These details combine a specific time estimate with a short distance and identify the route’s two high points.

Another route, a one-day trip covering 18 kilometers, starts and ends in Sheshory and runs through Hutsulshchyna National Park. Along the way, it passes the high-mountain lakes of Lebedyn at 650 meters and Mertve at over 800 meters, as well as Dovbush (Dazh-Boh) Cave. Time and distance make it easy to compare the two tours: four hours and 3.5 kilometers versus a full day and 18 kilometers. The stated elevation gains are 370 and 410 meters, respectively. For these longer tours, it is worth checking current trail conditions in advance.

Church of Saint Paraskeva

The Church of Saint Paraskeva lies southwest of the center on the left bank of the Pistynka. Its floor plan is cruciform; the structure includes a dome and five log-built sections. Its location and design offer two specific ways to place the church in the context of Sheshory: it stands by the river outside the center and features a wooden structure divided into sections.

The earliest mention of the Church of Saint Paraskeva dates to 1680. In 1710, a new wooden church was built at the community’s expense. A successor church replaced the previous building in 1776; a map from 1783 shows it at the site of the present-day church. These dates distinguish the earliest mention, the new construction, and the later replacement building. Together with the described architectural form and location on the left riverbank, they provide a specific historical and architectural focus for a stay in Sheshory.
