Discover Kosiv
Accommodation in Kosiv
For a trip to Kosiv, two areas of focus can be distinguished: the museums and educational space in the town, and mountain and market destinations in the surrounding area. Mykhalkiv lies above Kosiv, and the Kosiv Bazaar is in the village of Smodna. If you are looking for a hotel, this distinction can help you plan: would you like to focus more on the cultural sites in Kosiv, or also include destinations outside the town?
Ceramics, handicrafts and local history
Since 2021, the Museum of Hutsul Folk Art and Everyday Life has featured an interactive exhibition on the history of Kosiv painted ceramics. It includes tactile ceramic samples and Braille labels. In this way, the exhibition combines the history of a specific craft with tactile samples and Braille labels.
The collection at the Kosiv Museum of Hutsul Folk Art and Everyday Life includes around 5,000 exhibits. These include wood, ceramic, leather and metal works, as well as Hutsul clothing and embroidery. Compared with the ceramics exhibition, which focuses on a specific theme, the collection covers a wider range of materials and textile works. This makes it possible to distinguish two different areas of focus: painted ceramics in the exhibition and a diverse collection of handicrafts and everyday objects.
The Kosiv Museum opened in 1969 as a department of the J. Kobrynskyi Kolomyia Museum of Hutsul and Pokuttya Folk Art. This historical institutional connection adds the museum’s own origins to the perspective on its exhibits.
The Kosiv Museum of Local History was officially opened; the regional administration reported this on June 10, 2025. On October 24, 2025, the town council reported that an interactive educational space had opened in Kosiv. It introduces visitors to the history of artisanal woodworking in Hutsulshchyna. Local history and woodworking thus offer distinct points of focus alongside the themes of the folk art collection.
Mykhalkiv: viewing platform and mountain facilities
Near Kosiv lies Mount Mykhalkiv, at 812 metres the highest peak above Kosiv. There is a viewing platform at the summit. The mountain also has a 900-metre-long drag lift and a 1,200-metre-long ski run. The ski run is 300 metres longer than the lift. If you plan to use the facilities, check in advance whether they will be operating during your travel dates.
The “Na horu Mykhalkiv” ecological educational trail starts on the outskirts of Kosiv, on Druzhby Street. For your planning, this is a different specific starting point from the viewing platform at the summit. Also check the current condition of the trail before setting out.
The Kosiv Bazaar in the village of Smodna
The Kosiv Bazaar, also known as the Smodniansky Bazaar, is in the village of Smodna near Kosiv, and therefore outside the town. Visitors come to browse and buy souvenirs. Unlike the museums, whose themes include ceramics, handicrafts and local history, the focus here is on browsing and souvenir shopping. If you include the bazaar in your travel plans, bear in mind that Smodna is a destination outside the town.
