The history of Khom'yakivka is reflected on two different scales: in the village’s dated church buildings and in the archaeological settlement of Khomyakivka I to the north. The churches provide specific construction and consecration dates; the settlement represents much older cultural layers. When choosing a destination with historical significance, this distinction helps put the subjects into context without conflating their different periods.

Church of St. Michael the Archangel

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in Khom'yakivka was built from 2001 to 2011 with funds from the congregation. Its foundation stone had been consecrated as early as 1998. Metropolitan Ioasaf of Ivano-Frankivsk and Halych consecrated the church itself on September 4, 2011. The parish belongs to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. This distinguishes three milestones: the consecration of the foundation stone, the subsequent construction period, and the consecration of the building. The information places the construction not only in the year 2011, but also notes its funding by the congregation and its church affiliation. This clearly establishes both the period of construction and the consecration in the recent church history of Khom'yakivka.

Church of St. John Chrysostom

A much older point of reference is the Church of St. John Chrysostom. It was built in 1764 with funds from the congregation. A 1783 map showed the church at the site of the present-day church. The construction year and the map entry answer different questions: 1764 indicates when it was built, while 1783 documents the location marked on the map. Compared with the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, whose construction period ran from 2001 to 2011, this church brings an earlier phase of local church history into view. Both construction histories identify the congregation as the funder; however, the recorded dates span different centuries.

Khomyakivka I and its early cultural layers

The archaeological settlement of Khomyakivka I is located in the Horodyshche tract north of Khom'yakivka and is listed as an archaeological monument. Its layers are attributed to the Neolithic period with Comb and Pitted Ware culture, the Trypillia culture, the Holihrady culture, and the Early Iron Age of the 7th to 6th centuries BC. This classification encompasses several cultural and chronological associations rather than a single construction date. The Early Iron Age is specifically dated to the 7th to 6th centuries BC; the other named terms refer to additional layers. For orientation, it is helpful to distinguish these from the churches: Khomyakivka I lies north of the village and belongs to an archaeological timescale, while the churches are dated by construction and consecration years.

Construction Year, Construction Period, and Archaeological Classification

When establishing the chronology, it is important to note that the dates refer to different things. For the older church, the construction year and the map reference appear side by side; for the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, the consecration of the foundation stone, the construction period, and the later consecration mark different steps. Archaeological classification, in turn, uses cultural and period designations rather than a single construction phase. Separating these types of dates and categories makes it easier to compare Khom'yakivka’s historical reference points: a construction year answers a different question from a map reference or an archaeological classification.
