Šamorín combines cycling along the Danube with historic buildings, an urban forest park, and sports and leisure activities. When planning your trip, you can focus on different aspects: the international Danube Cycle Path, the city’s cultural history, or activities at x-bionic® sphere.

Cycling and tours on the Danube

The international Danube Cycle Path runs along the dam of the Hrušov Reservoir on the outskirts of Šamorín. Signs guide cyclists from the reservoir into the city and on to POMLÉ Forest Park. This makes it possible to plan the cycling route as a focus in its own right alongside the cultural destinations.

A one-day water tour offers a different perspective on the Danube: a 38 km stretch runs from Hainburg an der Donau via Devínska brána and Bratislava to Šamorín. Cycling and the water tour therefore differ both in the activity and in the places and duration mentioned.

POMLÉ Forest Park: nature and culture

The urban POMLÉ Forest Park covers 10 hectares and is located in the surroundings of a former branch of the Danube. A nature trail introduces visitors to the natural value of alluvial forests. This gives your visit to the park a particular focus: alongside the woodland, the alluvial forest landscape is also at the centre of attention.

The forest park also includes an amphitheatre where cultural events are held regularly. The park thus brings together nature-related themes and a venue for events. If you would like to include both in your trip plans, you can consider the nature trail and the cultural programme as different aspects of the place.

Churches, synagogue and city history

The Reformed Church in Šamorín is considered one of the oldest and most beautiful churches on Žitný ostrov. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is another important building: it was built to plans by the architect J. G. Altenburg and completed in 1778. Its richly decorated late Baroque interior includes ceiling frescoes, a main altar and four side altars.

The synagogue in Šamorín dates from 1912. Its architecture combines Romanesque elements with Middle Eastern motifs, and coloured glass adorns the windows. Today, thanks to At Home Gallery, it serves as an exhibition space for works of art and occasionally as a concert hall. Its history as a building and its present-day cultural use offer two distinct points of interest.

At Mestský vlastivedný dom, you can learn about the traditions of Šamorín and the tools used in urban crafts. An interactive gold-panning presentation is also offered there for groups. The museum thus complements the churches and synagogue with a look at local traditions and crafts.

Sport and leisure at x-bionic® sphere

x-bionic® sphere is a sports and leisure centre with facilities for professional and amateur sports, as well as relaxation and dining. The centre’s offerings and facilities include swimming pools, a wellness area, a cinema and a bar. You can find different options for active leisure and relaxation in one place.

The complex includes an Olympic equestrian centre. Horse riding and beginner courses are offered at x-bionic® sphere; numerous national and international competitions in show jumping, endurance riding and dressage are also held there throughout the year. If you are interested in equestrian sports, you can choose between taking part yourself and watching different disciplines.
