Poprad combines medieval architecture and museum exhibits with water attractions and trails in Kvetnica. Cultural sites include the churches of St. Egidius and St. George, as well as the Spišská Sobota Urban Conservation Reserve. When planning your stay, you can focus on different things, from the town’s history to a specific hike or water and wellness facilities.

Getting to Poprad

Poprad is served by Poprad-Tatry International Airport. Road connections include the E50 international highway. The main Košice–Bratislava railway line is relevant for train travel; it also provides connections to the Czech Republic and Ukraine. This gives you different options to consider when planning your journey: air, road and rail.

Churches and Historic Sites

The Tomb of the Prince of Poprad dates from the turn of the 4th and 5th centuries AD and is the tomb of a Germanic prince. It is unique in Europe for the preservation of its wooden architecture and furnishings.

Spišská Sobota is home to a uniquely well-preserved urban conservation reserve. Renaissance and Gothic burgher houses line the square. The Church of St. George dates from the mid-13th century; its Gothic interior and an altar from the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča add to the architectural character of the place. A branch of the Podtatranské Museum is located in a burgher house within the reserve. This house is a national cultural monument.

The early Gothic Church of St. Egidius, dating from the 13th century, stands in Poprad’s town center. Its interior is decorated with an exceptional ensemble of medieval paintings. During guided tours of the church, you can climb to a height of 26 meters and enjoy panoramic views from the tower gallery. Check tour booking options in advance.

Museums and Art

Scherfelov dom was established in 2008. Its permanent exhibition focuses on the life, scientific work and extensive civic engagement of Viliam Scherfel. The building also serves as a gallery and hosts various exhibitions. Before your visit, check which exhibitions are currently open to the public.

The Tatranská galéria was created by converting an old power station building, which is also an important technical monument. The gallery offers chamber exhibitions and creative workshops.

Water, Wellness and Trails in Kvetnica

AquaCity Poprad has 13 indoor and outdoor pools with thermal water ranging from 28°C to 38°C, as well as water slides and more than 350 water attractions. The 1,600 m² wellness and spa area includes various saunas, inhalation treatments, whirlpools, a Love Bay and a snow cave. When planning your visit, you can distinguish between the pools and water attractions and the various spa areas.

Kvetnica has several marked hiking trails and circular routes. A Stations of the Cross trail leads to the Resurrection Chapel near the 941-meter-high summit of Krížová. The Kvetnica educational trail covers Slovak forest vegetation zones, the historic archaeological site of Zámčisko and the Hranovnícka dubina National Nature Reserve across nine stops.

The educational trail loop is 13.6 km long, starts in Kvetnica Forest Park and takes about 3 hours and 45 minutes. From the trail, you can also reach the 921-meter-high summit of Zámčisko and enjoy views of the surrounding landscape. The distance and approximate duration give you a specific basis for planning this particular loop.
