If you are looking for a hotel in Výčapy-Opatovce, you can think of the village in terms of three interests: the landscape along the Nitra, the wine-growing area near St Urban, and cultural history. When planning your stay, it is worth distinguishing the short walk to the wine-growing area from the much longer long-distance cycling route. This will help you decide which activities you would like to shape your visit.

The Nitra Landscape and Views from the Vineyard

Výčapy-Opatovce lies in the Nitra Valley. The municipality is situated at an altitude of 146 to 230 metres in the southeast of the loess-covered Nitrianska pahorkatina hills. It extends across both the Nitra floodplain and its terrace. In suitable weather, views from the wine-growing area near St Urban extend over the village and the river’s meanders to the Tribeč Mountains on the opposite side, with the distinctive peak of Žibrica.

The history of wine-growing has also seen its ups and downs: the historic vineyards on the hill west of Výčapy-Opatovce disappeared after 1960. A new vineyard was planted there recently. This development links an earlier change in the landscape with a more recent revival of wine-growing, although no precise planting year can be given.

Walk to the Wine-Growing Area or Cycle Towards Nitra

Depending on the route chosen, the walk from the village centre to the wine-growing area near St Urban is about 1.5 to 2 kilometres and takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes. These are estimates; path conditions and other circumstances may change. There is a pavilion and a barbecue fire pit in the wine-growing area, but no drinking water or buffet. Plan your visit there without expecting these facilities to be available on site.

For a longer bike ride, the Ponitrianska long-distance cycling route No. 019 is a useful reference. It starts at the embankment near Výčapy-Opatovce and heads towards Nitra along the grass-covered banks of the Nitra. The entire route is 74.9 kilometres long, marked in red, and rated as a moderately difficult MTB route. It runs along paved roads as well as field and forest tracks. Route information may change; check the latest details before setting off.

Churches, Buildings and Local Traditions

The Roman Catholic Church of All Saints in Výčapy was built by the nobles of Seku and was first mentioned between 1332 and 1337. A former Church of All Saints was incorporated into a new complex, where it forms the side chapel of All Saints. Opposite the church stands a Baroque manor house, built by Prince Frigyes Hohenzollner in the mid-18th century. The cemetery in Výčapy is also home to the Baroque Chapel of St Joseph, dating from the early 18th century. A brick bell tower dating from 1815 stands in Opatovce Square.
