Discover Lukáčovce
Accommodation in Lukáčovce
Lukáčovce combines architectural landmarks with archaeological traces and a landscape in which the Lukáčovské rybníky play a prominent role. When planning your trip, it is worth considering these different aspects of the place separately: the castle and church tell of different periods of construction, while the ponds and cycling route offer their own way to explore the surrounding area.
Castle, church and archaeological history
Kaštieľ Lukáčovce is a small fortified castle with a regular rectangular floor plan and slightly projecting square corner towers. It was built in the second half of the 15th century. At the beginning of the 17th century, it was converted from the Gothic to the Renaissance style. Visitors interested in architecture can take in both its compact layout and the transition between two architectural styles.
Another chapter in the history of the place can be explored at Lukáčovský hrádok near the cemetery. The mound-shaped remains of a defensive structure have been professionally examined and documented. Archaeological evidence dates its origins to no later than the 13th century, and its destruction to the 15th century. It should therefore be distinguished from the castle built later: both sites represent defensive structures, but they belong to different historical contexts.
Archaeological finds in Lukáčovce also reach far back in time. They include the Neolithic Lengyel culture, the Eneolithic and Early Bronze Age, as well as finds from the period of Great Moravia. These time periods give the place a historical depth that extends beyond individual buildings.
The Church of St. John of Nepomuk (Kostol sv. Jána Nepomuckého) was built in the Baroque style from 1780 to 1792. It is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose. If you are planning a visit, check locally for visitor access; its religious use alone does not indicate public opening hours.
Ponds and cycling route
The Lukáčovské rybníky lie southwest of Lukáčovce and serve as a water reservoir. Together with the castle and the hrádok near the cemetery, they offer another point of reference for exploring the area. The ponds are also included on a named cycling route, rather than serving merely as a general landscape backdrop.
The 43-kilometre Nitra – Zbehy – Lukáčovce (rybníky) – rozhľadňa Radošinka – Šurianky MTB/trekking loop passes through Lukáčovce and goes via the area around Kaštieľ to the ponds. If you are choosing between an architectural stroll and a longer bike ride, these are different ways to take in the sights and places mentioned.
Events and local traditions
Šarkaniáda is a recurring family event held at the Lukáčovské rybníky site. The editions announced for 2024 and 2025 were scheduled to take place there. The programme for the 2025 edition also included a fun ride for children on balance bikes and bicycles around the pond. This information refers to the programmes announced at the time; it does not indicate a current event date.
In May 2026, after several years, the municipality was preparing to revive the traditional harvest festival, Dožinky. For the planned celebration in August 2026, the accompanying programme was to bring together folklore, music and traditions. It was also set to include demonstrations by beekeepers, a hunting association and local farmers about traditional rural life and work connected with nature and agriculture. Here too, the information describes an announced programme, not a confirmed event as held.
The Guláš Cup centres on a competition to cook kettle goulash. It adds a culinary event to the architectural and local history. When making your choice, you can therefore decide whether you are mainly interested in architecture and archaeological history, looking for a specific cycling route, or would like to discover the place in connection with its announced events.
