Čifáre between landscape and history
Accommodation in Čifáre
Čifáre lies in the northern part of the Pohronská pahorkatina and in the valley of the Telinský potok. The village is therefore associated with both rolling hills and a stream valley. This gives the area a distinct landscape profile to consider when choosing a destination. If you are looking for a hotel in Čifáre, you can check whether its landscape setting suits the purpose of your trip. History and community life offer additional ways to explore the village.
Rolling hills, woodland remnants, and a water reservoir
The hilly area consists of younger Tertiary clays, sands, and gravels, overlain by a loess deposit. Loess is fine sediment deposited by the wind; the term describes the top layer of the geological structure. This makes it possible to characterize the rolling hills not only by their shape but also by their underlying geology.
The municipal area is mostly deforested. Remnants of oak forests lie to the southeast and northwest; a 16-hectare water reservoir is located in the eastern part. The directions distinguish the landscape features within the municipal area: woodland remnants are noted in the southeast and northwest, and the body of water in the east. Together, these features create a landscape of mostly open areas, scattered remnants of oak forest, and a larger body of water.
Archaeological traces and church architecture
The earliest settlement of Čifáre dates back to the Paleolithic. A claw-shaped tool made of local andesite, resembling a hand axe, was found at the Kapustnická (Káposztás) site. Two other sites add to the picture: a flint core was found in the Bomha valley and a flint scraper at Stredné siatie. The material and shape distinguish the individual finds and provide concrete examples of the long history of settlement.
The parish church of Saint John the Evangelist was built in 1774 on the foundations of an earlier church. The date marks a building phase that incorporated the existing foundations. The predecessor building is therefore also part of the parish church’s architectural history.
Community life and dated events
The goulash cooking competition offers a glimpse into community life. The 20th competition took place in 2025, and the 21st in 2026. The ongoing numbering shows that this is a recurring tradition. The 2026 edition was held at the Tibor-Mészároš Football Stadium. If you want to include a future edition in your travel plans, you should check the date and venue again in advance.
A public wine tasting is also a specific event associated with a date: on April 7, 2018, the Čifáre Winegrowers’ Association held it at the cultural center. This is a historical date, not information about the program for a future trip.
Regional location on the I-51
Čifáre lies on the I-51 first-class road, which connects Levice and Vráble. The road also connects the wider area with Nitra. These two details refer to different scales: Levice and Vráble are the named towns connected by the road, while the connection with Nitra applies to the wider area.
