Alekšince combines a hilly landscape shaped by agriculture with traces of archaeology, church architecture and folk culture. Local themes range from a find more than 20,000 years old to cultural events from the more recent past. This lets you explore the place through its landscape, history and living traditions.

Landscape and History

Intensive agriculture has shaped Alekšince with flat, deforested ridges, broad valleys and hollows, and gently undulating hills. The Andač stream flows through the village centre and joins the Radošinka River. Together, these features describe both the open character of the surrounding area and a watercourse that runs through the heart of the village.

Archaeological finds show that the area has been inhabited since the Palaeolithic. These include a blade scraper made from limnoquartzite more than 20,000 years ago. Another point of historical interest is the Church of St. Anne (Kostol sv. Anny): it was built as a Neoclassical chapel in 1802, extended with a side aisle in 1939, and given a porch in 1959. Its main altar also dates from 1802 and includes a Calvary group. The church is considered well preserved and continues to serve its religious purpose. If its current condition or use is important to your visit, confirm the arrangements in advance.

Local customs and objects also offer insight into cultural history. Christian traditions include a Budičkový procession, which follows a different part of the village each time. Alekšince is also home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the second half of the 18th century. Traditional men’s clothing included hemp shirts with loose, embroidered sleeves; the embroidery was white, yellow, black and red.

Folk Culture and Events

The Slovanský Dvor Slavica in Alekšince is a traditional farmhouse-style museum dedicated to presenting folk culture. At VIEROSLAVÍN, visitors can see a wooden replica of the Zbruch Idol. Works displayed there also include ceramic reliefs of Slavic deities—LADA, ŽIVA, MAKOŠ, VELES, PERÚN and SVAROG—created by local artist Juliana Hadvigová.

The Slovanský Dvor Slavica hosts exhibitions, concerts, art competitions and commemorative days, as well as celebrations of traditional festivals, educational conferences and seminars. One dated example is the second edition of “VYKROJ SA NA DVOR,” held there on 6 June 2026. The programme included a treasure hunt for children focused on Slavic history and cultural heritage. If you’d like to plan your trip around a concert, festival or seminar, check the relevant date.

Local Events and Getting Your Bearings

The recurring “Alekšinský kotlík” goulash-cooking competition combines cooking with a contest; in 2025, the municipality announced its tenth edition. Visitors who did not take part could also sample goulash prepared by local hunters. The dog-training area is in a quiet setting and hosts various cultural and sporting events throughout the year, including dog-sport and goulash-cooking competitions. Facilities include a covered fire pit with 60 seats, toilets with a shower, a kitchen, a terrace and a dance floor.

The Alekšince fishponds are used for recreation and fishing. As they are privately owned, confirm access locally. The Nitra–Hlohovec railway line is another point of historical interest for getting around: it runs through Alekšince and opened in 1898. If you plan to travel by train today, check the timetable for your travel date.
