Rejdová: Culture, Crafts and Mountain Scenery
Accommodation in Rejdová
Rejdová combines sacred art and vibrant craft traditions with paths through the village and seasonal winter sports. When planning a stay, you can focus on culture, outdoor activities or skiing. The church, crafts, paths and ski area offer different points of interest; snow conditions and operations are seasonal when it comes to skiing.
Cultural History and Living Crafts
The national cultural monument “Evanjelický kostol Sv. Michala Archanjela” dates from the 17th century. The altar ensemble includes the painting “The Last Supper”. The ensemble was created around 1750 in a local sculpting and carving workshop in the Gemer region. The church therefore brings together a building from the 17th century and a later regional arts-and-crafts tradition. If you are interested in sacred art, this combination offers a specific historical focus.
Traditional folk crafts still practiced in Rejdová include carpet weaving, bobbin lace-making, shingle-making and sewing fur garments. The range therefore spans textile work, wooden shingles and clothing. The Hôra folklore group, founded in 1953, presents and preserves traditional folk crafts at various events. Its work combines public demonstrations of the crafts with passing them on.
The Múzeum tradičnej ľudovej kultúry is housed in a traditional wooden folk dwelling on the village square. If you are planning a museum visit, it is best to check visiting arrangements in advance. The Gemerský folklórny festival traditionally takes place in the second half of August; the exact dates vary from one edition to the next. A programme described for 2022 included open courtyards, demonstrations of folk crafts and displays of artisans’ work. This gives an insight into the nature of the programme, but is not a guarantee for future editions.
Paths Through the Village and Outdoors
The nature trail starts at the car park behind the local amphitheatre. It has a blue and a red route option, both signposted. The trail is 3 km long and open to pedestrians and cyclists. One of its special features is an oversized swing with a view of the village. If conditions change, check the signs on site.
The Náučný chodník has seven information boards in the built-up area and surrounding countryside of the municipality. The route is about 3.5 km long; allow approximately 1.5 hours to walk it. These figures refer to different things: the nature trail is 3 km long; allow approximately 1.5 hours of walking time for the Náučný chodník.
Mountain Scenery and Seasonal Winter Sports
Stolica is in Rejdová and, at 1,477 metres, is the highest peak in the Slovak Ore Mountains. The Rejdová ski area has three ski lifts for beginners and advanced skiers. It is in the Vŕšok district, about a ten-minute walk from the village square; parking is available directly by the ski lift. Snow conditions and operations are seasonal, and winter road and parking conditions can vary. Check conditions before travelling if the ski area is an essential part of your plans.
