Hruštín: Churches, Hiking Trails and a Nearby Ski Resort
Accommodation in Hruštín
Hruštín offers options for a stay focused on sacred architecture, hiking trails and excursions into the surrounding highlands. For your plans, you can choose between buildings in the village, a route through three villages, a summit trail in the nearby area and the ski resort outside Hruštín.
Sacred Buildings and Their Forms
The masonry Church of St. John the Baptist was built in 1820. It is a spacious, single-nave Neoclassical building. Its partially projecting tower is topped with an onion dome. “Single-nave” describes a floor plan with one main nave; together with the tower, this gives it a different architectural impression from a chapel or a freestanding cross.
The Chapel of St. Anne was built in the Neoclassical style in 1800 and has been preserved in its original size. It is located on the road to Črchle and features four columns and stone sculptures of St. Anne and the apostles Peter and Paul. On a visit, it is not only the building’s age that stands out: the columns and figures shape the chapel just as much as its architectural style.
Another example of sacred art is the stone cross of St. John the Baptist on the road to Babín, beyond the bridge. It was erected in 1833 and bears a relief of St. John the Baptist. The church, chapel and cross thus represent different scales: a larger church building, a chapel adorned with sculptures and a cross bearing a relief.
Educational Hiking Trails: Three Villages or a Summit
The Lomná–Krušetnica–Hruštín educational hiking trail is 42 km long in total and connects Hruštín, Lomná and Krušetnica. The section associated with Hruštín is 16.2 km long. The two figures refer to different sections: 42 km for the entire route connecting the three villages, and 16.2 km for the part in Hruštín. Keep this distinction in mind when assessing the route for your trip.
Another educational hiking trail runs in the nearby area, outside the village centre, from Koliba u Kuba to the summit of Vasiľovská hoľa. The route climbs just over 200 metres in elevation. Along the way, the educational trail provides information about the area’s local fauna, flora and habitats. The route thus combines a specific summit destination with nature-related topics along the way.
Hiking and Cycling Excursions by Edition
On 14 February 2026, Hruštín hosted the 46th edition of the winter ski tour “Prechod piatimi hoľami.” The planned route went over Hruštínska hoľa and Bzinská hoľa to the summit of Vasiľovská hoľa. These details relate to the edition mentioned and do not describe an upcoming event date.
Cycling tours are also associated with Hruštín. The route for the 2025 edition of “Cyklotúra piatimi hoľami” went over Hruštínska hoľa, Bzinská hoľa, Vasiľovská hoľa, Kubínska hoľa and Lihoťanská hoľa. The third edition of “Rodinná bicygľovačka” offered parents with children and recreational cyclists a shorter, easy route. The two examples therefore differ in their stated target groups and routes. If you are planning your trip around an event, check the date and route of the specific edition; future dates and routes may vary.
Skiing in the Nearby Area
The family ski resort SKI ZÁBAVA Hruštín is 7 km from Hruštín, on the northern side of Oravská Magura at an elevation of 900 to 1,150 m. It has five easy-to-intermediate ski runs with a combined length of 4.8 km, as well as three drag lifts. The 4.8 km refers to the combined length of all five runs.
The ski resort also offers equipment rental and servicing, a children’s ski school and a ski instructor. Confirm that these services are currently available before your visit. For planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between the ski resort outside the village, the buildings in Hruštín and the hiking trails, each with its own route details. This way, you can focus your trip on culture, hiking or a ski excursion.
