The cadastral area of Muránska Huta is part of Muránska planina National Park, which was established on 23 September 1997. If you choose Muránska Huta as your destination, you can plan your trip around its natural features, a specific circular hike and other activities.

Nature and waterfalls

Bobačka Cave is a national natural monument. It has more than five kilometres of underground passages with abundant sinter formations. Water from the cave flows through the forest for about 500 metres and forms a waterfall about three metres high by the road. Bobačka therefore includes both its underground expanse and the stream flowing through the forest to the road.

Hutniansky vodopád waterfall is on the main road from Červená Skala to Muráň, just beyond the Muránska Huta bus stop. You can reach it by bus from Muráň or Červená Skala. If you plan to use the bus service for your visit, check the current timetable in advance.

Circular hike to Muránsky hrad Castle

A circular hike starts and ends in Muránska Huta and leads to Muránsky hrad Castle. It begins at Bobačka Waterfall, also known as Hutnícky vodopád, above the village. The circular route is 12 km long, includes 565 m of elevation gain and takes about four hours. The approximate duration gives you a timeframe, while the distance and elevation gain help you gauge the scope of the hike. Trail conditions may vary seasonally. Check them before your hike.

Hikes and cycling trips into a national park are also possible from Muránska Huta. You can include these activities in your trip plans independently of the specific circular hike described above. For cycling trips, seasonally varying trail conditions are also something to take into account.

Horse riding and local history

The Pod Planinou riding club offers rides in the natural surroundings of a national park and the Stolické vrchy mountains. The offer is also open to non-riders. If you plan to go for a ride, check its availability locally before your trip.

Muránska Huta was founded in 1652 together with a glassworks. In the 1860s, a hammer mill called “klinčiareň” operated in the village, producing nails for wooden shingles. The two milestones differ in timing and production: the glassworks dates back to the village’s beginnings, while the hammer mill later produced shingle nails. The village’s history can therefore also be understood through its production.

If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Muránska Huta, first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: a hike to the castle, a visit to the waterfall by bus or a horse ride. Each option has different planning considerations: the approximate time required and trail conditions for the hike, the bus timetable for the bus service, and availability to be checked locally for horse riding.
