In Lupoč, a marked hiking trail, natural features and historic landmarks offer a range of travel experiences. For planning, the main points to consider are the walking time to the viewpoint, the equipment needed to visit the cave and the history of the buildings. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can plan your excursions around these interests.

Hiking and views at Vinný vrch

A white-and-yellow-marked hiking trail starts at the signpost in the centre of Lupoč and leads to the viewpoint below Vínny vrch. A hiking report from 2024 puts both the ascent and the descent at just over an hour. You can factor this time estimate for both directions into your day’s plans.

A wooden tourist viewing platform stands at the summit of Vinný vrch, in the cadastral area of Lupoč, at an altitude of 522 m. It was built in 2023. From there, panoramic views extend across the entire Lučenec Basin, with Halič Castle particularly noticeable. The route leads to the viewpoint below Vínny vrch, while the platform is at the summit of Vinný vrch.

Cave and natural environment

Lupočská nora is located in the cadastral area of Lupoč in the Ostrôžky Mountains and is one of Slovakia’s larger non-karst, or pseudokarst, caves. Its surveyed passages are 54.5 m long in total; the greatest recorded depth is 20.5 m. Length and depth are different measurements of the cave. Climbing equipment is required to visit it. This means the practical requirements differ from those for the hiking trail: there, walking time for the ascent and descent is an important planning factor; here, it is the necessary equipment.

The part of the Ľuborečská and Lentvorská Valley complex located in Lupoč is forested and has a highly dissected relief. In the Lučenec Basin, there are breeding areas for black storks in Lupoč, Jelšovec and Ľuboreč. In the upper part of Lupoč, by the Polichianský potok, there are volcanic rocks formed as a result of the eruption of the volcano on Mount Poľana. Yoga enthusiasts also visit them for relaxation and meditation. In the Ľuborečská and Lentvorská Valley complex, riverside woodland in the floodplains should also be protected; it serves a biological and aesthetic function there.

Buildings and history

The masonry bell tower in Lupoč is a cultural monument and was built in 1886. Its bells date from 1701, 1886 and 1921. The dates thus include points in time before, during and after the tower’s construction, adding several historical dates to its building history.

The Chapel of St Anthony of Padua was built in 1696 in Antolík, at the foot of Vínny vrch; a hermitage was later established beside it. Today, only the foundations of the former chapel remain. Folk architecture has also been preserved in Lupoč. The Novohrad dialect of the so-called Zvolen type was spoken here.

Lupoč therefore offers a range of ways to shape your stay: a hiking trail with a time estimate for both directions, natural features with their own distinctive characteristics, and buildings with specific dates. You can decide how to plan your excursions depending on whether hiking, nature or the history of the village is your main interest.
