Drážovce: Wine-growing history and cultural heritage
Accommodation in Drážovce
Drážovce combines a historic wine-growing tradition with a landscape in the Štiavnické vrchy Protected Landscape Area. This means your travel plans can include both cultural history and walks or cycling tours. The village is home to an Evangelical church and a wooden bell tower, while historic wine cellars are located nearby. Several named cycling routes also pass through Drážovce or start there. You can explore the destination’s themes according to your interests.
Landscape and walks
The entire municipality of Drážovce lies within the Štiavnické vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The village stretches along the banks of the Klastavský potok. The landscape alternates between valleys and hills, as well as forests, meadows and pastures; this setting invites visitors to go for walks. The stream is part of the village’s description, while the alternation between wooded and open areas shapes the character of the landscape.
On walks in the surrounding area, you may be lucky enough to find mushrooms, wild strawberries, blackberries and medicinal herbs. Whether you find any depends on the season; they are not to be expected on every walk. These nature-related themes add a specific reason to pay attention to your surroundings while out and about.
Cycling routes with different itineraries
The 29-kilometre GREENWAY cycling route section runs from Drážovce via Sebechleby to Krnišov. The Drážovce–Sebechleby–Krnišov–Krupina–Drážovce circular route starts in Drážovce. Another route, “Cez tri kopce a stovky viníc,” passes through Drážovce, Ladzany, Sebechleby, H. Nemce and Kráľovce-Krnišov.
Sebechleby features on all three route itineraries. The circular route also goes via Krnišov and Krupina on its way back to Drážovce, while the 29-kilometre GREENWAY section provides a specific distance. The “Cez tri kopce a stovky viníc” route lists other places along the way, including Ladzany and H. Nemce. The three options can therefore be distinguished by their named waypoints and, in the case of the GREENWAY, by the section’s length.
Wine-growing history and buildings
One historical landmark is the 1135 founding charter of Bzovík Abbey, which mentions Drážovce under the name “Dras.” The village also has a historic wine-growing tradition. Nearby, in the “Vínny hrb” area, visitors can see historic wine cellars with original tuff-stone architecture. The cellars provide a tangible architectural link to the history of wine-growing; their tuff-stone architecture is a distinctive feature of the cultural heritage.
The Evangelical church in Drážovce is a towerless Neoclassical church dating from 1843. Inside is a stone Renaissance baptismal font from the first half of the 17th century. The altar features column architecture and late 18th-century Rococo ornamentation. The baptismal font and altar represent different periods, while the church itself is distinguished by its Neoclassical design and lack of a tower.
Another historic building in the village is a wooden bell tower dating from the late 18th century. Together with the church and the wine cellars, it offers another way to explore the architectural history of Drážovce. The buildings differ in function, material and period: from the tuff stone of the cellars to the stone baptismal font and the wooden bell tower.
