Landscape and Location in Leušići
Leušići lies on ridges and slopes below the Bijele Ploče and Kremana mountains. The Konjska Rijeka flows through the southern part of the area. The Monastery of the Holy Lord’s Transfiguration is located in the village on the slopes of Suvobor, 25 kilometers from both Gornji Milanovac and Čačak. The ridges, river course and monastery location give the area distinct geographical and cultural points of reference. When choosing a destination, you can weigh whether you are most interested in the landscape, farm history or religious traditions of Leušići.
Farm History and a Rural Stay
Rajski Konaci is an ethno village established in Leušići. Former farm buildings—a fruit storehouse, dairy, drying room and barns—were converted into holiday apartments for guests. These buildings offer a tangible glimpse into the farm’s agricultural past. A 2025 report by Serbian broadcaster RTS describes the Jevtović family farm in Leušići as more than two centuries old. Cold springs rise on the grounds of Rajski Konaci. The property offers its guests walks through groves and meadows in the surrounding Šumadija landscape. At Rajski Konaci, dishes are prepared using vegetables and fruit from its own garden and the surrounding clearings, as well as ingredients sourced from neighbors. These offer two distinct points of interest for your travel plans: the converted buildings reflect the farm’s history, while the walks showcase the landscape around Rajski Konaci.
Monastery Traditions and Petrovdan
Since 2011, a religious and folk festival has been held at the Monastery of the Holy Lord’s Transfiguration on Petrovdan. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for the relevant year. On Petrovdan, a memorial service is also held there for 27 local people from Leušići and the surrounding area who were killed by Germans in Banjica on Petrovdan in 1943. Locally, they are known as “Petrovsko roblje.” Petrovdan thus brings together festival traditions and remembrance.
Traces of Local History
The Rajski Konaci website gives 1718 as the year Leušići was first mentioned. The village cemetery contains the grave of Red Army soldier Slavko Paramenkov from Kaluga; a small memorial plaque marks the grave. A 2014 report also recounted that, after the liberation, residents erected a monument at the grave. It also noted that candles were lit there on Zadušnice. Another expression of local remembrance is the folk fair “Žižov grm.” Traditionally, the fair was held around the large tree of the same name to celebrate the end of the harvest. A 2021 report described the revival of the fair and also noted an interruption. These traces reflect different themes: the fair represents the harvest tradition, while the grave and memorial plaque commemorate specific people.
