Boghiș combines the Băile Boghiș thermal baths with the history of the Reformed church and Bánffy Castle. This gives you two distinct points to consider when planning your trip: thermal water and pools on one hand, and architectural and local history on the other. If you are looking for a hotel in Boghiș, you can first decide which of these aspects you want to shape your stay.

Thermal Baths and Treatment Options

The bathing area at Băile Boghiș includes four outdoor thermal-water pools for adults and children, as well as an indoor pool. This gives you a direct comparison between the outdoor area and the indoor pool. If you want to prioritize one of these bathing areas when planning your trip, you can take the number and type of pools into account.

Băile Boghiș is supplied with thermomineral water at 42 °C, with bicarbonate-sodium and iodine-containing properties. The temperature refers to the water supplied to the facility.

The treatment facilities include hydrotherapy, balneotherapy, physiotherapy, reflexology massage, and hydrokinesitherapy. Medical care and first aid are also available. The bathing areas and treatment facilities therefore represent two distinct aspects of the thermal offering: the outdoor and indoor pools on one hand, and the listed treatments and medical care on the other. Your choice will depend on whether you are primarily interested in the pools or also want to consider one of the listed treatments.

Church and Castle: Two Historical Stories

The Biserica Reformată Boghiș dates back to a Catholic church from 1332, which was converted into a Reformed church in the 16th century. The current church building was constructed between 1792 and 1796 with the support of Bánffy Dénes and Farkas. Kovács István made the clock in 1800, a few years after the current building was constructed.

Bánffy Castle was built in 1719, as indicated by an inscription on a roof beam. Its last owner was the landowner Ketheli István, who sold the estate in 1925 when he fled. The current castle building houses a nursing home. In contrast to the church’s history, the castle’s story focuses on its construction date, a later change of ownership, and the building’s current use; the church’s story concerns its predecessor, its change of denomination, and the construction of the current building.
