Rohrdachen (Ernei) lies on the left bank of the Mureș. Churches, schools, Bálintitt Castle and scenic spots associated with local tales offer different starting points for a stay. If you are looking for hotels in Rohrdachen, you could first consider whether you would rather focus on architectural and educational history or on forests, the river and local traditions. These themes offer different perspectives on the place.

Locating Rohrdachen

Ernei lies about ten kilometres from Târgu Mureș, in the direction of Reghin. The Mureș adds another point of reference: Ernei lies on its left bank. Distance, direction and riverbank answer different questions about the location: approximately how far is the place from Târgu Mureș, in which direction does it lie, and which river shapes its setting? The local history and landscape offer further points of reference when deciding what interests you.

Schools, Church and Castle History

From the 17th century onwards, Ernei had three denominational schools: a Reformed, a Catholic and a Greek Catholic school. This threefold division gives the history of education a concrete form and shows the variety of denominational schools at the time. The Catholic church was rebuilt to replace the old church, which had fallen into disrepair, and dedicated to All Saints. Bálintitt Castle was built in the 18th century in the Neo-Baroque style. Today, only remnants of the former castle park remain.

The schools and the castle can be compared chronologically: the history of the schools begins in the 17th century, while the castle was built in the 18th century. Education and architecture thus stand side by side as distinct historical themes. By contrast, looking at the former castle park today means seeing the few remnants that remain. Together, these facts offer different ways to explore the history of the place, without reducing the buildings and their history to a single theme.

Churches and Tower Museum

Ernei’s tourist attractions include the Reformed church and the Tower Museum. Alongside the Catholic church, they offer another focus on religious heritage and museums. If you are planning a specific visit to these sites, it is best to check opening hours in advance.

Forest, Riverbank and Local Legends

Pădurea Călugărilor is a named place near Ernei that can be visited. There you can see old trees that recall a love story full of jealousy; this tale is part of local legend. Grota zânelor is associated with a different tradition. According to legend, there was a cave between Ernei and Chinari, on the clayey bank of the Mureș, that locals called Grota zânelor. In good weather, you can climb up to Grota zânelor.

The two landscape features are clearly distinct: Pădurea Călugărilor centres on old trees and a love story, while Grota zânelor is about the cave and its legendary location on the riverbank. Visiting conditions also differ: Pădurea Călugărilor can be visited, while the climb to Grota zânelor depends on good weather. If you plan the climb, choose a day with good weather.
