Discover Sighișoara
Accommodation in Sighișoara
Sighișoara offers several distinct highlights for a stay: the historic centre, notable buildings, a nature reserve nearby, cycling routes and a summer festival. If you are looking for a hotel in Sighișoara, these themes can help you decide what kind of trip you want. Cultural heritage, Biserica din Deal, time in the Breite Reserve, cycling or a festival visit each offer a different focus. For visits, the church’s tourist opening hours and the reserve’s access conditions are particularly relevant; check them for your travel dates.
Historic centre and buildings
The historic centre of Sighișoara was added to the World Heritage List in 1999. Turnul cu Ceas is a historic and architectural monument in Sighișoara and the largest of the citadel’s nine surviving defensive towers. It houses the Sighișoara History Museum, which opened on 24 June 1899. This notable building therefore brings together its status among the surviving defensive towers and the history of the museum.
Scara Acoperită also has clearly specified historical details: it was built in 1642 and has 175 steps. Biserica din Deal offers a different focus. It contains the only known crypt in Transylvania. For tourist visits, as of 14 August 2026, the church is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm. Check the opening hours before your trip.
Breite Reserve and cycling routes
The Breite Secular Oak Nature Reserve lies near Sighișoara and covers 133 hectares. You can explore the area on foot or by bicycle. Access is free, provided you follow the rules. This makes a visit to the nature reserve a distinct part of a trip alongside the historic buildings, without conflating the different themes.
There are two described ways to access the Breite Reserve: via the DN14 Sighișoara–Mediaș road or from the southwestern end of Strada Ana Ipătescu via the Via Transilvanica. Check local access conditions before your visit. The cycling information offers another distinction: the ADEPT Cycling Path is 100 kilometres long and connects the Saxon villages around Sighișoara. The Sighișoara–Richiș cycling route, by contrast, has a specific starting area in Sighișoara.
This cycling route starts in the area of Rezervația Breite, more precisely between houses No. 56 and 58 on Strada Ana Ipătescu, where two information boards are located. The two route descriptions therefore answer different questions about orientation: the ADEPT Cycling Path is described in terms of its length and the villages it connects, while Sighișoara–Richiș has a specifically identified starting point.
Sighișoara Medieval Festival
Every summer since 1992, the Sighișoara Medieval Festival has brought the past to life in the citadel of Sighișoara. The festival features medieval costumes and corresponding stage sets, as well as theatre, dance and music. It offers a seasonal occasion that differs from the historic buildings and the nature reserve. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for the relevant edition.
The differences between these attractions can help you choose the focus of your trip: the historic centre and its buildings offer cultural heritage, the Breite Reserve is suited to walks or cycling in the surrounding area, and the festival is a recurring summer event. The specific opening hours and access conditions provide further guidance when planning your visit.
