Hărău: Church, Archaeology and a Mureș Leisure Cruise
Accommodation in Hărău
Sfântul Dumitru Church, the Hărău–Cetate and Hărău–Pe Șag archaeological sites, and a leisure cruise on the Mureș represent architectural history, archaeology, and river recreation.
Sfântul Dumitru Church
The masonry church of Sfântul Dumitru was built in the 18th century. It is listed as a national historic monument and named as one of the most important tourist attractions in Hărău commune.
Two archaeological sites
The Hărău–Cetate site is a settlement at La Cetate (Földvár). Finds from this settlement are kept at the museum in Deva.
Hărău–Pe Șag lies on a well-defined terrace above the Mureș’s present-day floodplain, between Hărău and Chimindia.
The settlement at the Hărău–Pe Șag site is dated to the developed Neolithic (Vinča/A-B). It included a hut and a ditch, considered part of a defense system for the Neolithic settlement. During preventive archaeological investigations in 2022, a burial in an extended position was also among the features partially or fully excavated. The period and year of investigation refer to different stages: the settlement is dated to the developed Neolithic (Vinča/A-B), while the preventive archaeological investigations took place in 2022. The hut and ditch are structural traces of the settlement, with the ditch considered part of a defense system. A burial in an extended position complements the structural remains with evidence of a burial and was among the features partially or fully excavated. Thus, Hărău–Pe Șag brings together traces of a Neolithic settlement and evidence of a burial recorded during later investigations. The church dates from the 18th century; Pe Șag, by contrast, refers to the developed Neolithic.
Leisure cruise on the Mureș
A report from June 2022 gives an approximate duration of one hour for a leisure cruise on the Mureș aboard the Vaporașul Stelar and lists the route as Șoimuș–Mintia–Hărău–Șoimuș. Hărău is part of this stated route sequence.
Another date concerns the season for leisure cruises on the Mureș aboard excursion boats in Șoimuș: it resumed on March 19, 2026, after the winter break. If you are planning a specific cruise, check the latest dates, route, and duration in advance. For trip planning, the route, duration, and season announcement serve different purposes: Hărău is on the route sequence mentioned in June 2022, between Mintia and the return to Șoimuș; the approximate one-hour duration can be used as a rough time frame for the excursion. The March 19, 2026 announcement, by contrast, concerns the resumption of the season in Șoimuș after the winter break. It marks the seasonal restart, while the approximate one-hour duration indicates the time frame for an individual cruise.
