For a stay in Sâncrăieni, you can choose among different focuses: nature, mineral water traditions and cultural heritage. The season is an important factor to consider when planning a visit to Borsáros-fürdő in particular. The named landscapes and cultural sites also offer different points of interest for your trip.

Landscape and Wetlands

The hydrogeological protection area for the natural mineral water springs in the Sâncrăieni area includes part of the Bazinul Ciucului de Jos Natura 2000 site. The Natura 2000 site covers 2,693 ha and includes the villages of Sâncrăieni, Sântimbru and Sânsimion. The protection area for the springs and the larger protected site are therefore distinct geographical areas. The figure of 2,693 hectares is equivalent to 26.93 square kilometres and helps convey the size of the entire Natura 2000 site.

Mlaștina Borșaroș currently consists of two isolated wetland areas: Vízkert (Grădina apei) and Omlásalja (Surpătură). Mlaștina Borșaroș is currently home to 20 to 30 specimens of dwarf birch (Betula humilis), a glacial relict. The population may naturally change over time. The two named areas and the dwarf birch offer specific points of interest for nature, while the Natura 2000 site describes a broader geographical context.

History and Buildings

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Stephen in Sâncrăieni has a Romanesque portal. The Úr-kápolna is also located in the Tiva cemetery; its stone doorframe bears the year 1528. The two buildings have distinct historical features: the portal style is the main feature of Saint Stephen's, while the date on the doorframe stands out at the chapel.

The prehistoric settlement Aşezarea preistorică de la Sâncrăieni - Fabrica de Cărămidă, on the southern edge of the village, offers another historical perspective. The cultural sites therefore differ both in type and in period: Romanesque architecture, a dated doorframe and a prehistoric settlement represent different aspects of local history.

Mineral Water Traditions

Natural mineral water from Sâncrăieni was bottled and sold under the Harghita brand from 1957; the brand is now called Tiva Harghita. Perla Harghitei mineral water has been bottled in Sâncrăieni since 1974. These dates relate to different brand histories: 1957 refers to bottling and sales under Harghita, now Tiva Harghita, while 1974 marks the start of bottling Perla Harghitei. This helps distinguish the two names and their respective timelines.
