Jigodin-Băi: Mineral Water, Art and Landscape
Accommodation in Jigodin-Băi
Jigodin-Băi brings together several reasons to stay, which are easy to distinguish when planning your visit. The main attractions are, of course, natural mineral water and treatments, the memorial house of artist Nagy Imre, and the archaeological site on Dealul Cetăţii. Depending on whether you are interested in treatments, art and remembrance, or landscape and archaeology, you will find different things to focus on.
Mineral Water and Treatments
At the Jigodin treatment centre, natural mineral water is the main treatment element. It is 100 percent pure and contains no additives. Băile Jigodin also has a mineral-water pool fed by naturally carbonated mineral water. The mofetta offers a different type of treatment: a room saturated with natural carbon dioxide vapours, used for circulatory and vascular conditions. The treatment centre’s mineral water, the pool and the mofetta’s carbon dioxide vapours therefore offer different treatment options. Before your visit, check whether the pool and mofetta are available, as services may change.
Art and Remembrance
The Casa Memorială „Nagy Imre“ is dedicated to artist Nagy Imre (1893–1976). On display are pieces of furniture, books, documents and his collection of paintings. The range extends beyond the paintings: objects and written materials are also part of the exhibits. If you are interested in Nagy Imre’s art, viewing these different objects together offers a broader perspective on the memorial house. As exhibits may change, check what is currently on display before your visit.
Dealul Cetăţii and the Ciuc Basin
The Cetatea Harom (Jigodin II) archaeological site is located on the 904-metre-high, cone-shaped Dealul Cetăţii. From the summit, the view extends across the entire Ciuc Basin, from Sîndominic to Tuşnad, as well as to other Dacian fortifications. Here, the focus is on the archaeological site and the sweeping landscape views—a different focus from the art collection at Casa Memorială.
Hiking trail 21MN19 starts in Jigodin-Băi at the Szikla mineral water spring. It connects Miercurea Ciuc (Jigodin-Băi) with Dealul Cetăţii and ends at the Csihányos Nature Reserve. The route description thus gives specific points to help with navigation: the spring as the starting point, Dealul Cetăţii, and the nature reserve as the endpoint. For route planning, the start and end points are distinct from the viewpoint: the view is described from the summit of Dealul Cetăţii, while Csihányos marks the end of the trail.
The natural setting also comes with a stated area. A January 2026 environmental report lists the Băile Jigodin–Csihányos–Dealul Cetăţii area as a protected natural area of county-level importance, covering 253 hectares.
