Gorges and karst landscape
In the upper Ialomița Valley, within the commune of Moroeni, the Ialomița River has carved out nine gorge sections. Cheile Tătarului is a geological, natural and palaeontological reserve of national importance in the upper Ialomița area of the commune. The Peștera-Cocora Nature Reserve encompasses the Bătrâna–Peștera Ialomiței karst system.
Peștera Rătei is also a prominent karst formation: its meandering passages extend across three levels, one active and two fossil. The cave is about 8,000 m long, with a vertical range of +67 m. It is considered the most important endokarst feature in the Bucegi Mountains. Turbăria Lăptici is one of 14 nature reserves in Bucegi Natural Park and the highest-altitude peat bog in Romania.
