Rosfjordsanden, Sørlandsbadet and the historic places offer different themes to explore on a trip to Lyngdal. To help you plan, it’s useful to consider the coastal landscape, leisure activities and culture separately: the fine sandy beach, an open-air museum and individual historic sites represent different sides of the destination.

Rosfjordsanden: Beach and trails

Rosfjordsanden is a fine sandy beach near Lyngdal, at the innermost end of the Rosfjord. Its promenade connects to hiking trails leading to the viewpoints at Månen and Øydnatoppen. These named trails add two specific destinations to help you find your way around the beach. The promenade is adapted for people with disabilities. The beach also has a playground, outdoor fitness equipment, a slide and a beach volleyball court. These features support different ways of enjoying the same place: the promenade and hiking trails on the one hand, and play and sports facilities on the other. Some seasonal services may vary.

Historic buildings and remembrance

Klokkergården in Lyngdal is an open-air museum with several historic buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries; access is seasonal. A vicarage has been furnished in two rooms: a formal room where women used to meet, and the vicar’s office. Klokkergården also houses a mission museum that tells the story of Gustava Kielland and her legacy. The two furnished rooms illustrate the vicarage; the mission museum presents Gustava Kielland and her legacy.

Olsens hus offers a different historical perspective. It is considered Lyngdal’s oldest building; the year 1711 is inscribed above its entrance. There are several burial mounds at the burial ground by Lyngdal Church. A statue and an information board refer to Saint Olav and his visit to Sælør. In Lyngdal, the history of buildings and museums thus sits alongside an archaeological site with a specific historical reference.

Sørlandsbadet and the NM-sklia

Sørlandsbadet is in the Rosfjord area of Lyngdal, about 3 kilometres from the centre of Lyngdal and 5 kilometres from the E39. The NM-sklia is a 60-metre-long water slide with electronic timekeeping. Its history is also linked to water-slide competitions: in 2013, it hosted Norway’s first water-slide championship.
