Lyngdal lies at the innermost end of the Rosfjord in southern Norway. Nature trails, swimming, fishing and places of cultural and historical interest offer different ways to shape your stay. When choosing a hotel in Lyngdal, you can first consider whether your trip should focus mainly on outdoor activities, water experiences or visits related to local history.

Trails, water and fishing

You can fish in the Lynga, a river described as one of Norway’s best salmon rivers. In Skrelia, marked trails offer the opportunity to swim in clear freshwater. The circular trails are less than 2 kilometres, 3.6 kilometres and 4.6 kilometres long, respectively. You can compare the routes by length and combine your visit with a swim in freshwater. There is exactly one kilometre between the two longer circular trails; the shortest is under two kilometres, making it significantly shorter than either of the longer routes.

The trail to Sherpahytta starts near Lyngdal’s health centre and takes about 30 minutes. So, alongside the circular trails in Skrelia, whose distances are given in kilometres, there is also a route with an approximate duration.

Swimming and visitor facilities

Sørlandsbadet in Lyngdal offers the whole family opportunities to play, swim and relax, whatever the weather. It is 5 kilometres from the E39; the access road leads through the centre of Lyngdal and then via Rosfjord. The promenade at Rosfjordsanden has been adapted for visitors with disabilities.

The Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre at KvĂĄsfossen has a universally accessible facility. A lift leads into the mountain; there is an accessible toilet at the entrance or exit. Guided group visits can be booked outside regular opening hours and must be reserved at least 14 days in advance. The programme includes the salmon ladder tunnel, exhibitions and activities.

Cultural history and museums

Klokkergården bygdetun in Lyngdal consists of several buildings of cultural and historical interest. The Lyngdal mission museum was originally Lyngdal’s first permanent school, in use from 1844. It presents the history of the missionary work of the pastor couple Gustava and Gabriel Kielland; guided tours are available by arrangement.

Konsmo also offers different opportunities to explore local history. Gamle Posthuset is a local heritage museum with historic furniture, photographs and an exhibition about railway construction in the municipality. Barnevandrersenteret consists of three rooms with information and photographs about local child migrants. Klokkergården comprises several buildings of cultural and historical interest; the Lyngdal mission museum connects its former use as a school with the history of missionary work, while Konsmo’s museums explore further chapters of local history through railway construction and local child migrants.
