Feios brings together landscapes, outdoor activities and cultural history. The following local highlights show how these experiences differ.

Landscapes between fjord and mountains

The Nærøyfjord World Heritage area extends across the Fresvikbreen glacier to Feios. Alm Gard offers a specific vantage point: the farm lies in the middle of the valley and affords views of the Sognefjord, with forests and mountains behind it. Both the wider World Heritage area and the landscape around the farm are landmarks to consider when planning your trip.

Alm Gard, horseback riding and fishing

Alm Gard in Feios combines small-scale organic farming with tourism and the production of ice cream and cheese. The farm offers horseback rides on two “Lyngs hester” from an old Viking breed. Another activity is salmon fishing in the Feioselvi River. Farming, tourism and food production come together here; horseback riding and fishing each offer a distinct focus for a stay.

The landscape around the farm can also be part of your plans: views of the Sognefjord and the forests and mountains behind the farm offer a different point of reference from the activities on the river. For travelers looking to combine nature with rural farming, several specific aspects of the place can take center stage without having to be brought together in a single itinerary.

Hike to Vidasethovden

One hiking option near Feios is the route to Vidasethovden. It is 9 km long, takes an estimated 4–6 hours and climbs from 400 m to 1,227 m. The trail passes from spruce forest through deciduous woodland and heath to open mountain terrain. The scenery therefore changes along the route, from wooded sections to open mountain surroundings. If you are unfamiliar with the route, you should hike it with a local guide.

The hike starts at Lunde. By car, the approach leads via Vik and Vangsnes to Feios and on to the Lunde mountain farm; access is via a private forestry road. The estimated duration and elevation profile give you a concrete framework for planning your time. Since the route takes several hours and the scenery changes along the way, you can treat it as the main focus of a separate outing.

Feios Church and its history

Feios Church is a single-nave long church that has largely been preserved in the form in which it was built in 1866. The present church stands on the Rinde farm, which was also the site of the earlier church. A remnant of a memorial plaque from 1618 commemorating children who died is preserved in the tower.

The two dates refer to different elements: 1866 to the construction of the present church, and 1618 to the surviving remnant of the memorial plaque. The building’s history and the remembrance of children who died are thus brought together. The church offers a cultural and historical point of interest distinct from the scenery at Alm Gard and the hike to Vidasethovden.
