Discover Jørpeland
Accommodation in Jørpeland
Jørpelandsholmen is a popular recreational area just outside the centre of Jørpeland, connected to the mainland by Stålverksbrua. Jørpelandsholmen is home to a disc golf course with twelve holes, operated by Strand Frisbee Golfklubb. Other highlights in Jørpeland include riverside walks, local art venues and kayaking tours from the quay.
Walks between the river and the views
The walk to Jørpelandsfossen starts in Jørpelandsvågen. A good path follows the river to the waterfall. Along the way, you pass a salmon ladder where visitors can watch salmon making their way upstream. Another walk starts at the quay in Jørpeland and leads to Førlandsåsen. Førlandsåsen is 520 metres high and offers views of Jørpeland, Stavanger and the fjords between the two cities. The routes have different highlights: the path to Jørpelandsfossen follows the river to the waterfall, while the views are the main attraction at Førlandsåsen.
Art venues in Jørpeland
The sculpture park in Jørpeland features sculptures in Rosehagen and at other locations around the town. It grew out of a symposium for acid-resistant stainless steel and is based on a collaboration between artists from Norway and abroad, Scana Steel Stavanger, Strand Municipality and Melting Pot.
Rosehagen Kultur & Næringspark is a historic wooden villa in a large garden overlooking Jørpelandsvågen. Galleri Skjæveland offers a different way to experience art: in its exhibition space by the water, near the centre, it presents contemporary Norwegian art, from well-known Norwegian artists to promising newcomers. Street art can be found in several locations in Jørpeland, including the works “Kokhølsmeden” and “Jenta med Preikestolen”. The town therefore offers a range of art forms, from sculptures and gallery exhibitions to street art.
Kayaking tours and guest harbour
At Jørpeland’s quay, Fjordexpedition rents out sea kayaks and offers guided tours to the islets off Jørpeland. When planning, you can choose between renting a sea kayak and joining a guided tour. Jørpeland Guest Harbour has 20 visitor berths, as well as showers, toilets, a washing machine, and a petrol and diesel pump. Harbour facilities may change; if you need a particular service, check in advance whether it is currently available.
More destinations in Strand
In the Strand destination, Preikestolen is a 604-metre-high cliff. The route there passes through wetlands and forests and includes stone steps built by Nepalese Sherpas. The hike is eight kilometres in total and takes about four hours for the round trip; trail conditions may vary. Unlike the hike to Jørpelandsfossen, which follows the river to the waterfall, the route to Preikestolen also has an estimated round-trip duration and total distance specified.
Also in the Strand destination are the prehistoric rock carvings at Solbakk. The site dates from around 500 BC and includes almost 30 ship depictions and eight sun figures.
