Tjelta: Vehicles, Swimming Times and Trails
Accommodation in Tjelta
Tjelta offers several options to consider when planning your trip: an extensive vehicle collection, swimming times and diving facilities at Dysjalandshallen, an easy circular trail and sections of the Panzer Wall. You can tailor your stay to your interests—for example, technology, exercise or traces of the region’s past.
Vehicle Collection at the TS Museum
The TS Museum in Tjelta has a unique collection of old tractors, cars, motorcycles and trucks, with more than 180 vehicles in total. Rather than focusing on just one type of vehicle, the collection spans four different categories. The museum was opened by Trygve Stangeland in 2004, making its founding part of the museum’s history as well.
Swimming Times and Diving Facilities
There are public swimming times at Dysjalandshallen on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Check the times before your visit, as operational information may change. The hall also has a diving tower with fixed platforms at heights of 7.5, 5 and 2.7 metres, as well as springboards at heights of 3 and 1 metre. The maximum stated heights therefore differ by facility: the fixed platform reaches 7.5 metres, while the highest springboard is 3 metres.
Circular Trail and Panzer Wall near Tjelta
The easy circular trail from Hålandsmarka goes around Hålandskogen, via Gjøsteinen—the radar station on Tjelta—and back. This gives you both the circular trail and a named landmark along the route to help you find your way.
South of Dysjaland, the Panzer Wall and a bunker of type R676 can be seen on both sides of the FV510; sections of the wall are located near Tjelta. The sections of the Panzer Wall near Tjelta contain two of the four bunkers of this type recorded in Rogaland. These details link a specific construction type to its regional context.

The trail from the car park to the cabin is about 1 kilometre long and follows a gravel path; the cabin is accessible with a stroller or wheelchair.

Visitors interested in the region’s history can also visit the medieval Sola Ruinkyrkje, built in the 12th century. Two large stone crosses stand in the old cemetery at Tjora and are among the earliest material traces of the Christianisation of Norway.
