Hiking Trails and Road History
Moksheimstien runs between Norheim and Vormedal and is one of the popular hiking areas on Karmøy. Kirkevegen lies between Aksnes and Vormedal and was rebuilt in 1880 along the route of the old church road. Historically, this church road connected Myklabust and Vormedal. Kirkevegen can be walked between Aksnes or Myklabust and Vormedal. Local conditions may change; check them if you plan to walk Kirkevegen.
The year 1880 refers to the rebuilding along an older route; it does not date the beginning of the old church road. This distinguishes the construction history of Kirkevegen from the historical connection between Myklabust and Vormedal. Moksheimstien is primarily presented as a hiking area, while Kirkevegen also has a dated construction history.
Cultural History in Vormedal
Five so-called “Hitlertänder” (anti-tank obstacles) still stand in Vormedal and are reminders of the Second World War. The director’s residence in Vormedal was built in 1910 in the Art Nouveau style. The two historical features offer different perspectives: the Hitlertänder relate to the wartime period, while the residence reflects the architectural history of the early 20th century. The year dates the building, while Art Nouveau identifies its architectural style.
