Discover Kornsjø through three distinct highlights: its lakes and shores, opportunities for hiking and cycling in natural areas, and the history of the railway station. If you’re looking for a hotel in Kornsjø, first consider which of these themes you’d like to spend the most time on during your trip.

Lakes, swimming coves and trails

There are numerous swimming rocks and small coves around the Kornsjø lakes; some have sandy beaches. Some can be reached on foot, while others are accessible only by boat. At the Kornsjø border bridge, there is a swimming area with a sandy beach, diving board and bathing jetty. This lets you choose between smaller coves and swimming rocks and this specially equipped swimming area.

The natural areas around the Kornsjø lakes offer good opportunities for hiking and cycling. For the Løksvannet rundt hike, you can park at Kornsjø Velhus. The well-marked trail leads into the countryside and has several rest areas. Another short circular walk at Sund on Kornsjø follows a path down to Gamle Sundsbrua. The routes offer different experiences: on Løksvannet, trail markers and rest areas are part of the walk, while the loop at Sund leads to the old bridge.

Railway station and history

At Kornsjø railway station, a marked cultural walk features four information boards about the station’s history and the activities that took place there. The station opened on 18 July 1879. The new station building was completed in 1900, after the old building burned down in August 1898. The dates refer to different events: 1879 to the station’s opening, and 1900 to the completion of the new building.

The Kornsjø station buildings are protected under Section 15 of Norway’s Cultural Heritage Act. This means that, alongside activities at the lakes, a clearly defined cultural history theme is also a highlight. The cultural walk connects the station’s history with the activities that took place there; the dates for the opening and the new building provide a timeline.

Plan trips and your journey

D/S Prøven operates regular scheduled services in summer. Charter trips can also be booked from May to September. This distinction is useful for planning: scheduled services are listed for summer, while the charter booking period runs from May to September. If a boat trip is an important part of your journey, check the current sailing dates in advance.
