Nord-Solvær combines a small boat harbor with a history as a fishing village. Nearby, the island world of the Solværøyene and activities in Sleneset add to the destination’s appeal. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between the village itself and what the surrounding area offers: fishing history and the express boat quay are local points of reference; you can also find paddling and golf nearby.

Harbor and Getting There

Nord-Solvær has a harbor for small boats. The Nordsolvær express boat quay is a stop on the Helgelandspendelen route in Lurøy. The schedule was updated on September 7, 2026; check departure times before your trip. You can reach the Solværøyene and Sleneset from Stokkvågen by ferry or express boat; traveling in your own boat is also an option. These connections serve the Solværøyene and Sleneset, while the express boat quay is a point of reference on Nord-Solvær. Check the current status of harbor facilities before traveling.

Island World and Paddling

Nearby, the Solværøyene offer bays, light-colored beaches, abundant birdlife, and excellent paddling opportunities. The island group is considered one of Helgeland’s best paddling areas. Almost 2,000 islands, islets, and skerries lie among shallows and sandy beaches. In summer, the low-lying islands offer views of the midnight sun, while in autumn and winter they offer views of the northern lights. The seasonal experiences differ: in summer, the light of the midnight sun shapes the scenery, while autumn and winter are associated with views of the northern lights.

One paddling route runs from Sleneset to Lovund. If you plan to take this route, check current conditions and access arrangements in advance. The route is a separate planning consideration alongside the general paddling opportunities in the archipelago.

Other Activities Nearby

Sleneset has a five-hole golf course. Since the information about the course comes from a guide published several years ago, check its current availability in advance. Sleneset Båtforening also has a guest harbor with bicycle rental, motorhome pitches, and a service building. Check which services are currently available before your trip. The golf course and guest harbor expand the options nearby, but are not features of the small boat harbor on Nord-Solvær.

Fishing Village and Historical Accounts

From 1900 onward, Nord-Solvær was an important fishing village in Lurøy. The historic fishing village had several fish-receiving stations. Shops, post offices, and the weather observation station were run by women. Fish receiving, local services, and weather observation represent different aspects of village life at the time and add to the picture of its fishing history.

Accounts of healing traditions are also part of the village’s history. Solværkjerringa is considered the first figure in an old healing tradition in Nord-Solvær, a small island community in Lurøy. Another historical account tells of a woman who moved to the neighboring island of Nord-Solvær around 1850. It was only when she was well advanced in age that she became known there for her healing abilities.
