Accommodation in Lurøy
Lurøy between coastal culture and island nature
In Lurøy, you can explore coastal culture, a historic garden and the archipelago as different highlights of a stay. Kystmuseet focuses on fishing and agriculture; Lurøygården combines an old Renaissance garden with group activities. You can explore the surrounding waters by boat or kayak.
Kystmuseet and Lurøygården
Kystmuseet is located between Lurøy kirke and Torshavn/Lurøy kai. Its collection includes old objects related to fishing and agriculture. In the exhibition, you can see fishing equipment and the skeleton of a sei whale, among other things; the collection also includes a protected Lovund cutter. The exhibits range from work equipment to a large marine mammal, giving the museum visit a clear connection to the history of the coast and local livelihoods.
The Renaissance garden at Lurøygården is located at the foot of Lurøyfjellet on Lurøy. It was laid out around 1740 and is therefore more than 200 years old. For groups of up to 30 people, Lurøygården offers guided tours and refreshments in the old house by prior arrangement. If you would like to explore the garden on foot on your own, check current visitor access in advance.
