Breivik in Salten lies on the southern side of the Skjerstadfjord. The Skjerstadfjord offers views towards Valnesfjord and Fauske; on the other side of the fjord are forests and mountains. Breivikdalen also helps define the area geographically: Gardsvatnet is the last of several lakes in the valley, and the Mølnelva flows from there down to the Skjerstadfjord. The sequence of local waterways and the location by the fjord thus offer different perspectives on the landscape.

Forest and fjord excursions

In Breivik, there are opportunities for excursions in the forest and on the fjord. Breivikmarka has numerous good fishing waters. The activities therefore differ in focus: the forest and fjord are suited to excursions, while Breivikmarka offers fishing waters. If you plan around landscape themes, you can choose between these types of excursions and fishing.

Winter tours and regional orientation

In winter, ski tours lead from Breivik through the terrain towards Misvær or Ljøsenhammeren. Which direction you consider depends on which of these destinations you want to reach. Check local snow and trail conditions before setting out.

The Kulturveien also provides a regional point of reference: it runs from Saltstraumen towards Ljøsenhammeren. Breivik is mentioned as a possible detour for visiting Skjerstad and Breivik. This is a different kind of planning from local excursions: here, the focus is on a route direction with a possible detour to visit, while the ski tours are winter activities starting from Breivik.

More to explore in the Bodø destination

The wider Bodø destination has other, distinct visitor attractions. The Kyststien runs for 6.5 kilometres from Bodøsjøen to Mørkvedbukta. Along the route are viewpoints, picnic areas and benches; the path is designed to be accessible. The Norsk Luftfartsmuseum is also located in Bodø, at Stormyra near the city centre. Covering 10,000 square metres, it presents the history of military and civil aviation, including the U-2, Starfighter and Spitfire aircraft. The interactive “Bli pilot” exhibition invites visitors to try it for themselves and compete against family or friends. Bodø thus complements Breivik’s local fjord, forest and winter themes with its own coastal path and aviation museum.
