Mauseidvåg offers a variety of options for your stay: trails by Mausavatnet, the Bakkevika swimming area and a hike to Rollonhytta. If you are looking for a hotel in Mauseidvåg, these local options can help you plan your stay around the lake, swimming or hiking.

Loop trail around Mausavatnet

The loop around Mausavatnet is about 3.4 kilometres long. One side follows a paved walking and cycling path, while the other is a gravel path. The different surfaces shape the character of the lakeside loop. It is suitable for prams, bicycles and wheelchairs when accompanied by someone.

There are open areas to the west and pine forest to the east. Tables and benches along the route offer places to take a break. At the north-western end of Mausavatnet, on Eikremsvegen, there is a designated car park with a toilet. The Grova and Eikrem bus stops are suitable starting points for the loop.

Swimming area and surroundings

Bakkevika is a swimming area with a small sandy beach, a toilet, tables and barbecue facilities. This gives it a different focus from the loop around the lake: here, the beach and the facilities at the swimming area take centre stage.

Near Mauseidvåg is Purketjønna, a ten-minute walk east of Svanshornet. There are three small huts by the pond. This location links Purketjønna with Svanshornet and adds another named landmark to help orient you in the landscape.

Hike to Rollonhytta

The trail to Rollonhytta starts at the Grova car park at the northern end of Mausavatnet. The hike is considered easy and is possible year-round. In winter, there is often a prepared ski trail; whether it has been groomed can vary depending on conditions. About 400 metres before the cabin, the trail passes Taustua.

A kiosk at Rollonhytta was open on public holidays. An outdoor toilet was open when the cabin was open. Before setting out on the hike, check whether these facilities are currently available.

Sula: regional context

The wider destination of Sula offers other distinct topics to help you plan your trip. The D/S Thorolf was built in 1910–1911 and is considered the oldest surviving wooden steamship in Scandinavia. Its home port is in Langevåg, by Devoldfabrikken.

Devoldbanen is considered Norway’s largest model railway and is open on Saturdays from 12 to 16. Check the opening hours before your visit. At Kraftverket Aktivitetspark, children, young people and adults can enjoy obstacle courses, slides, a bouldering wall and climbing frames across more than 800 square metres.

A passenger boat connects Langevåg with Ålesund in about seven minutes; check the current departures when planning your trip. The trail to Vardane, the highest point on the island of Sula, is accessible year-round. Kjellingset also has its own cultural and historical significance: it is part of a larger cultural landscape with traces of settlement from the Migration Period to around 1780.

Kaab Bryggeri offers beer tastings that can be booked by companies, groups of friends and bachelor or bachelorette parties. As tasting packages may change, check the current offerings before making plans.
