Gursken: Gamlevegen, Keipen and Gapahuken
Accommodation in Gursken
Historic trails, hikes and views give a trip to Gursken different highlights. Gamlevegen to Drageskaret combines a hike with a tangible historical connection; from Keipen, the view stretches across Gursken, and by Middagsvatna there is a rest area on the way to the summit. Gapahuken i Gursken adds another highlight with its location in the forest.
Gamlevegen: a hike with a history
Gamlevegen to Drageskaret is part of the first road in the former Herøy parish district. This historic road ran from Leikong to Larsnes and was completed around 1840. The hike from Gursken to Drageskaret follows part of this historic road.
Gamlevegen begins in Gursken near the junction by a grocery store; parking is available at the Bedehuset. The one-way route is 1.90 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 171 metres and takes about 1 hour and 25 minutes. It is classed as an easy, green hike and is described as suitable for winter, spring, summer and autumn. The route length, ascent and approximate duration make it easy to fit this hike into your day’s plans.
Gapahuken i Gursken in the forest
Gapahuken i Gursken is located in the forest above Gursken Oppvekstsenter in Gurskebotn. It has climbing ropes in the trees and on the rock, as well as a fire pit for grilling.
About 100 metres before Gapahuken i Gursken, the path crosses a rocky section that may be a little difficult for the youngest children. If you are out with very young children, take this section into account when planning your trip.
Keipen and Middagsvatna
Keipen is a summit south of Gursken and offers a lovely view across the area. The hike to Keipen passes Lake Middagsvatna, where there is a rest area and a barbecue spot. Gamlevegen’s route length, elevation gain and duration are the main features of that hike, while the summit view and lakeside stop give the Keipen hike two distinct highlights.
