Molde lies on the Romsdalsfjord, surrounded by mountains and fjords. A stay here offers a range of options: regional architectural and urban history at the Romsdalsmuseet, routes through parks and older neighbourhoods, music events, and activities by the water. Which of these matter to you can also shape your hotel search.

Culture and urban history

Founded in 1912, the Romsdalsmuseet showcases buildings and interiors from across the region. Bygata features typical Molde townhouses from the period before the Second World War. This local example sits alongside the museum's broader regional collection. Since opening in 2016, the Krona visitor centre has offered a permanent exhibition and temporary exhibitions.

The museum also offers a look at traditional crafts: the Bunad workshop makes reconstructed folk costumes from Romsdal. During working hours, you can watch the craftspeople at work. In the city centre, 29 historic buildings are also signposted. So, alongside exploring exhibitions, you can discover individual historic buildings throughout the city.

Routes and places to spend time by the water

The hike along the Grønne Korridor leads from Storkaia through parks, older neighbourhoods and nature up to the Varden viewpoint. This sequence connects different parts of the city: the route takes in parks and nature as well as older neighbourhoods. If you are looking for a route through several different settings, the Grønne Korridor offers a specific trail from Storkaia to Varden.

Sjøfronten, a continuous harbour promenade in the heart of Molde, runs along the water. It offers views of the fjord and mountains, and there are restaurants, art and playgrounds along the promenade. Unlike the hike along the Grønne Korridor, this is all about spending time on the harbour promenade.

Festival, swimming pool and fjord experiences

Moldejazz takes place in Molde every year in July, during calendar week 29. The festival lasts six days and features around 120 concerts. If you are travelling for Moldejazz, plan around this week and check the exact event dates before booking.

Moldebadet has two water slides and three diving boards at heights of 1, 3 and 5 metres. The family pool has a current channel, a massage jet, a fountain and a climbing wall. There are also floor fittings for a wheelchair ramp. Check the pool's operating conditions before your visit.

The architecturally designed floating sauna Nausta is located on the waterfront promenade in central Molde. You can swim there year-round or enjoy views of the Moldefjord. Check the operator's information before planning your visit.

The Salmon Center Molde combines an interactive exhibition with a comprehensive introduction to Norwegian aquaculture. It also offers a RIB trip to an offshore salmon farm. On the trip, you can see how the salmon live in the net pens. Advance arrangements may be needed for the trip, so coordinate your plans with the provider.
