Hjelset offers travellers several distinct outdoor attractions: the swimming area and boat harbour at Hjelsetstranda, as well as the activity facilities in Skjevik Nærmiljøpark. When choosing a hotel destination, you can consider whether your stay should focus more on the water, the sauna or activities in the park. Hjelset is on the E39, 16 kilometres east of Molde city centre.

Swimming and sauna culture at Hjelsetstranda

Hjelsetstranda is an outdoor recreation area and a joint project by Hjelset og Skjevik Velforening, Fannefjorden Småbåtforening and IL Hjelsetfram. It has a swimming area and a boat harbour; other listed facilities include a fire pit and a motorhome parking space.

Folevarmt operates a commercial sauna at Hjelsetstranda. The experience combines traditional sauna culture with seawater right outside the sauna. If you plan a sauna visit, check the current visiting options in advance. This lets you consider swimming and the sauna as separate aspects of your trip planning, rather than combining them into a single offering.

Activities in Skjevik Nærmiljøpark

Skjevik Nærmiljøpark is home to Snipa DiscGolfPark, also known as Skjevik Frisbeegolfpark. Five disc golf starter sets are available to borrow so you can try out the course. The park also has a lit short loop and a longer loop: in summer, they are used as fitness trails, and in winter, as cross-country ski trails. There is an ice rink in the Friplassen area in winter.

Other activities include a pump track built by Fannefjorden Sykkelklubb and an obstacle course in the forest behind building 2, formerly known as Vikamyra. The Ingolfbua shelter offers cover for 10 to 15 people and is open to everyone. The park thus offers a range of activities and a place to shelter; the loops and the ice rink also give your planning a clear seasonal distinction.

For choosing a destination, this offers a concrete comparison: Hjelsetstranda centres on the swimming area, boat harbour and sauna, while Skjevik Nærmiljøpark offers disc golf, trails and other activities. If you are considering Hjelset for a hotel stay, you can decide which of these options better suits your travel plans.

Molde as the wider context

The wider destination of Molde has its own cultural and scenic attractions. Founded in 1912, the Romsdal Museum displays buildings and interiors from across the region. Bygata features typical Molde townhouses from before the Second World War. Krona offers a permanent exhibition and temporary exhibitions, a café, a museum shop and a local history library. Reconstructed folk costumes from Romsdal are made in the Bunad Studio; during working hours, you can watch the craftspeople at work.

The Varden viewpoint is also in the wider destination of Molde. At an elevation of 407 metres, it offers views of Molde, the fjord and its islands, as well as a panorama of 222 mountain peaks. Alongside Hjelset’s specific outdoor offerings, Molde therefore also provides distinct museum and landscape attractions to explore.
