Rødberg can be understood through two specific themes: the railway history of the Numedalsbanen and the Numedalsruta cycling route. If you are planning a stay, these connections provide a factual overview of the town and its role within the destination. Local culture and orientation add to the picture; other natural and cultural attractions belong to the wider destination of Nore Og Uvdal.

Numedalsbanen: railway terminus in Rødberg

The protected section of the Numedalsbanen runs from Rollag to Rødberg and is about 45 kilometres long. It ends at Rødberg station; the line ends there alongside the Nore I power station. The Numedalsbanen is a very well-preserved railway installation dating from the 1920s. It illustrates important aspects of Norwegian transport and energy history. Thus, a specific railway terminus and a broader historical context come together in Rødberg, while the length of the railway line should not be confused with that of the cycling route.

Cycling on the Numedalsruta

The cycling route to Rødberg is part of the national Numedalsruta cycle route. Within the wider destination of Nore Og Uvdal, the 280-kilometre route runs from Geilo via Kongsberg to Larvik. One section is Smådøl: it is 35 kilometres long and runs from Ånevatn to Rødberg. These figures describe different sections of the route: the protected railway is about 45 kilometres between Rollag and Rødberg, while Smådøl is 35 kilometres between Ånevatn and Rødberg. This comparison helps distinguish the railway and cycling connections, rather than treating them as the same route.
