Asker combines nature experiences at Semsvannet with recreational and cultural activities in the town centre. When looking for a hotel in Asker, it can therefore help to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: trails and scenery, swimming and sports, or culture? The following destinations show how varied a stay in the town can be.

Nature and outdoor activities at Semsvannet

The circular trail around Semsvannet is about 5.5 kilometres long and can be covered on foot, by running or by bicycle. This means the route can be enjoyed as a walk, run or bike ride, without limiting it to just one type of activity.

In summer, the lake is the starting point for many beautiful cycling routes. In winter, ski trails lead in several directions from there. The options therefore vary clearly by season: cycling routes in summer and ski trails in winter.

The signs for the Haugborunden trail begin among the shops and cafés in Asker town centre. They provide a useful point of reference if you want to start exploring on foot in the town centre.

Between 40 and 50 bird species breed at Semsvannet. The lake and surrounding landscape have been protected as a landscape conservation area since 1992. The circular trail also offers views of Asker’s highest waterfall. Several good swimming spots and the lake’s suitability for fishing add opportunities on the water to the nature and trail activities.

Recreation and culture in the town centre

Risenga swimming complex is located in the centre of Asker. Its facilities include slides, a wave pool with a current channel, a children’s pool and a warm-water pool, as well as a diving tower and a climbing wall. The lakeside swimming spots are thus complemented by a centrally located swimming complex with a range of pools and other facilities.

The Asker Cultural Centre is also located in the town centre and offers events for all ages and interests. It includes theatre and concert halls, two black box theatres, an outdoor stage, a gallery, a cinema and dining facilities. The choice therefore ranges from stages and cinema to galleries and dining.

History and food in the surrounding area

Near Asker, the sawmill and planing mill Sem sag og høvleri began operating in 1612. Today it is a living industrial heritage site owned by the Asker Museum.

In Hvalstad, near Asker, the Asker Museum includes the artists’ homes of Tilla and Otto Valstad, as well as the homes of the author couple Hulda and Arne Garborg. These examples offer different points of interest: Sem sag og høvleri represents industrial history, while Hvalstad is home to artists’ and authors’ houses.

In the surrounding area of Asker, NaKuHel runs courses and events throughout the year. After a walk around Semsvannet, hikers can enjoy coffee and a light meal there. Café Smia at the NaKuHel Centre serves homemade food.
